A few here had asked for additional photos of my jacket. I added these to the "Aero Alternatives" thread yesterday, but thought it might make more sense to post these up in a new thread to benefit anyone out there searching for information on Johnson Leathers.

Here is my jacket after a season of wear.

Wow! I be liking that. Great windflap. Looks like a serious hide weight for riding.
Looks like the fit is perfect.
I commented some time ago in another post about their build quality based on some California PDs motor jackets I had seen. I'd put their build quality on a par with Aero.
Another big plus is.....no VAT, no Customs and no outrageous postage!

Thanks for posting; killer jacket!

Best regards, coffee

It's not often I spend a teabreak in the office admiring another man's Johnson, but this really is nice. Looks like a (slightly neater fitting?) Highwayman with no breast pocket. Any inner pockets?

I went with one inner chest pocket. I kept the barrel sleeves of a riding jacket but with no zippers for a cleaner look (I already have a dedicated riding jacket). Along those same lines I also eliminated the outer chest pocket. As already pointed out, I did keep the inner wind flap simply for functionality. As for fit, I wanted enough room to be able to accommodate a sweater underneath. They nailed it.

No double VAT? Damn it! :D

Nice Johnson, BTW ;)

Yep;
My days of paying VAT are over. I'll never buy another new Aero or Eastman.
I had planned on picking up an Aero jacket in Scotland when I visit the continent next year....but no way; still going to Europe but won't be getting a jacket. That allows me more money to spend on Calvados!

You're in Washington State, can't you find a nice local apple brandy?

Hi Grayland;
Yes I have............but I can't take it across the water next year. Besides, last time I was in Normandy, getting snockered on their local Calvados was great....looking forward to it again!

I also wanted to order an Aero jacket (windward). But after their posts at TFL I changed my mind.

In Europe, alcohol not only does have VAT, it has a load of stupid taxes that you couldn't believe. Any cocktail has more taxes in the mix than spirits. :eeek: Anyway, anjoy the trip ;)

Looks great. What do the sides look like? That's part of what I think sets Aero aside from other high quality jacket manufacturers - the sides of their jackets just look so good. I'm not particularly keen on the bi-swing back, but this is the best picture that I could find.

I have two Johnson Leathers jackets. I got the first one for street wear. It is in brown and is their standard weight leather. I liked it so well that I ordered a heavy leather jacket in black--as if I needed another black dedicated motorcycle jacket. They have two weights of leather in their heavy stuff. I got the leather they send to the Japanese market; it is bit lighter than their really heavy leather. I wouldn't want to touch the really heavy stuff. It will take me a couple of years to get the one I have broken in. The weight is about the same as Vanson and Aero, maybe a little heavier.

Quality is good, and they will custom make a G-1 type gun pocket to fit your carry weapon, or back up weapon if a police officer. Plus the fit is excellent, and no side buckles are needed.

That does it. Guess I'll have to drop by their shop. (They are local for me.)
If I order a jacket, I wonder if I can convince them to "absorb" the 8.5% California/SF sales tax.
You out of state folks won't mind making up the difference for them by what you pay for one, will you? ;)

Hi Peacoat......I realize you said you have two Johnson jackets. Now the one you have with the heavier leather, is it about the same as Aero and Vanson or is it the heaviest heavy leather on par with Aero and Vanson (the one you don't have). All cowhide I presume?

Thanks,
coffee

Here's a semi side shot. I actually requested a bi-swing back. I didn't want any hardware on this jacket (other than the main zipper), so no side straps as featured on the Aero. However, Johnson can easily do a true half-belt design without the bi-swing.

I'll just chip in again FFTT......I really dig your Johnson jacket. Is the kidney belt reenforced or just cosmetic?

coffee
