I think this will be one of those rare things: a jacket everyone agrees is lovely.

It's just waiting to be paired with some grey flannel trousers.

It may also be earlier then mid 40s.
the burtons label is highly decorative

I mean I have a sports coat date 35' that has a conservative cut you wouldn't consider it mid 30s

Yes, ditto.

I can recall a Harris tweed label, I think like that one, that has a Copyright 1937 on it, but I don't remember where I saw it or even if I saw it, and am not just mis-remembering.

It can be dated by looking of the trademark number. It's not quite as useful as dated union tags, but still pretty handy:
