They did not want to use factory made hats, and really did not want them for the western hats needed, because the boxed western hats now days are not even close to the hats worn in 1946 to 1953.

I forgot who but I think John B. in Knoxville when at the hat shop one trip gave me some western catalogs dated around 1950, we reviewed those styles and made the hats looking like those for the stage hats needed for the western look. The brims on these hats are 3 1/4" with bound edges.

Also Rusty here on the FL helped me find all the photos he could find of Hank in all the Fedora hats and we used his info for those fedora hats.

Glad to hear they're sticklers for period authenticity. When I think of all the millions spent making movies and how often we see anachronisms in those films, and how relatively inexpensively they could have been avoided, I die just a little.

Judging from the photos of him I've seen, Hank was a good-lookin' guy, and well turned out. I'm among the many, I'm sure, who are looking forward to seeing how he is portrayed in this film, right down to his attire.

Congratulations again, Major. This is indeed a big deal.

This is great news hearing MM was chosen to create the hats for the film. Congrats on that. I too cannot wait to see what you've come up with.

I am also glad to read the production is keeping period accuracy in mind.

Way to go, Mike! Such a great opportunity could not happen to a nicer gentleman and a great hatter.

Here are a couple of shots of Mike and Rocky with Tom Hiddleston.
Tom will be playing the role of Hank Williams.
He is wearing one of the fedoras made for the film.

All the hats are now made, once we get down on the movie set, I'll see about getting good photos of the actors in wardrobe with the different hats on.

I'm looking forward to seeing this also. The fedora pic looks like an OR or similar hat with a C-crown crease.

Yes, I traded some catalogs and western magazines at my cost to MM a couple of years ago. I had found many of them in the little town of Micanopy, FL, and maybe a couple on ebay at reasonable prices. I had picked them up thinking that Mike could use them, and if not, I was ok with just keeping them since they were not expensive. There certainly was not any use in them sitting around my house, and since then Mike has told me that several customers have enjoyed looking through those mags.

If this film is even a minor hit, expect this hat style to dramatically increase in popularity. It's a real good-lookin' hat, and very appropriate for wearing under circumstances grown American men are likely to find themselves in. It's Westernesque, for sure, but it ain't a cowboy hat.
