I just got a lot of almost 70-90 ties from my great grandfather. I'm new tot he vintage ties but an expert in vintage hats. I'm gonna post two ties for now.

Tie 1:
This tie looks to be 40s but, I'm not an expert.....yet hehe.

I would your expert opinions. I need to start learning dating techniques and what the style is of the different decades in the golden era.

70-90 ties?? Wow, that's more than I'll ever get in a lifetime!

The ones that you've posted appear to be from the 1950s, the first most likely made from around say 1951-1957. The second tie is more of a '54-'59. How can I tell? They are narrow, but not as narrow as those made from around 1958-1967, when ties became wide but lapels remained skinny (hmm, most suits are worn in that disproportionate way). Yet they have those "lone motifs" (or the one random design that would be the focus of the tie) and also appear to made of woven rayon or acetate fabric.

Believe it or not, those kind of ties would have been considered "cheap" and "disposable," just like the Rayons made in the 1940s. A more "correct" tie would have been a conservative stripe or foulard in silk; these are thicker that the decidedly more stylish period ties. I have examples of both.

The two ties on the right (based on knowledge is just recieved from Queztal) are probably 40s. The one on the left I have no idea. I'm not keen on the shape of it. But it is very cool.

It's hard to tell the age of any of the ties, save the Flat-Bottomed, which makes me want to say 50s. The other two look as though they could have made in the 1940s or the 1970s. Their ages can be determined if more pictures are provided.

Red one is definately 70s. I'd guess the blue one is too. It has a really cool pattern.
I agree with quetzal, the square end one is probably 50s or 60s.
Nice haul. Bust some more of 'em out.
