... Just ordered my first Akubra...a bluegrass green Campdraft. Had ordered a Stylemaster...but was afraid the crown was too tapered for my big head. I know my melon will fit into a Campdraft. Sam was kind enough to change the order for me. Now the wait....

I'm also a member of the big head brigade, and have 3 Campdraft’s (64cm) and 2 Stylemaster’s (65 cm). Stylemaster’s definitely show the added taper, but surprisingly don’t look unwearable compared to the CD...just a different look that suits a different style of outfits/occasions, somewhat more formal looking.

Do yourself a favor, send Sam a note, and add the Stylemaster to your order, looks real good in BGG and carbon gray. Can’t beat the price, and you will save some $$$ on shipping.

Yeah, I would...but money's tight, and one is all I can afford right now. I'll have to save up.... :)

I'm new to the brimmed-hat wearing fraternity, having worn visors for so many years. After this one, I'll be saving for a hot-weather hat....

Campdraft questions

Will here. I have a few questions for you Campdraft pros. I'm considering adding a Campdraft to my collection. I have a Bushman, which I love. I know that that Campdraft has a slightly smaller brim but how does the crown compare to the Bushman? I wear a 7-1/2 (60) an do not like any taper in my crown. I prefer vertical walls front to back and side to side. I know that a 7-1/4 and a 7-1/2 can look very different and many of the pics I've seen don't list what size the hat is. Do any of you have a 7-1/2 in silverbelly that you could post pics of? As of this writing I could find no one in the USA who has one. Is EA the best place to score one at this time? Thank you for any advice/ pics you can provide.

Sorry. No pics of Silverbelly. Mine is 59. EA prices are probably the best. Sam is great to do biz with. IMHO. The Akubra Fed is a little shorter in open crown height than the Camp Draft but it has less taper along with straighter sides.

"The crown has come home..." Campdraft BGG. EA's Special Delivery Avion! Sorry for the poor lighting. Couldn't wait to pop the cap! :eusa_clap

Dry creased..Surprisingly simple based on the somewhat stiffness of the felt...Have to learn other creases!!

Silverbelly CD - open crown. Crown is just shy of 6". Sam had these in stock a few weeks ago during the sale. Now the wait is on for them.

Edit: Sorry, this is a 7 1/4. Would there really be that much difference?

Received my third CD a week ago from EA, my second in Silverbelly. The first is a Heritage Deluxe I purchased a few tears ago from hats direct, and other than a narrower sweat I see no appreciable difference to warrant the additional cost for the Deluxe. However, the flange on this latest is different than my other two in that it cups up more, for lack of a better term. I noticed the same on Fruno's CD in photos he posted in another CD thread. Not a problem, it will take a little more steam and coaxing to shape it the way I like.

How you crease it seems to have an influence on the taper
The least with a telscope

True. The taper is more noticeable towards the top of the crown. Crease and bash deeper with a teardrop and you're "eating up" or eliminating the taper.
