Lining - Harris Tweed vs Herringbone Tweed

How does the Harris Tweed compare to Aero's Brown Herringbone Tweed? Warmer? Softer? Durability? Coat will be about 28inch long so I need something that can take abuse. Alpaca would be warm but probably wear through easily.

Consider moleskin or even corduroy body shell lining and cotton drill sleeves for durability and warmth. My 28" FQHH Teamster lined with the moleskin/cotton drill served me well for cold/foul weather.

I'm not sure that current tweed is durable enough as a lining for a heavy jacket. It will abrade where it rubs against belt loops, jeans pockets, etc. I'm basing this on personal experience. I've a Harris tweed jacket six years old that's worn through on one side., probably from carrying a rucksack on one shoulder on relatively few occasions. It hasn't worn through elsewhere.

I could be wrong, and maybe Aero use a particularly hard-wearing tweed.

Moleskin, like Fanch says, might be the way to go.

Definitely concerned with durability since this will be a Long Halfbelt in cordovan Steer. Will be worn in NYC Fall winter, so 30F-55F. Can anyone chime in on how Cord/Moleskin sleeve linings might work? Maybe full cord / full moleskin, or cord body and moleskin sleeves?

I wonder if it might be better to think about cotton drill for wear and versatility - can then wear it in warmer weather - and wear a fleece underneath when it's cold. Since it's a long half belt, you could wear a fisherman's roll neck sweater underneath if it were really cold.

But NYC is just a tiny bit colder than Texas mr fanch. I have cotton drill in 3 jackets and it's just bearable. That's why I'm looking for a slightly warmer sleeve, but don't want to sweat like I'm wearing shearling. I'm also not one to layers clothes. Just a single long sleeve shirt or sweater, but not a combination.

Sleeves- go with Cord or Moleskin?

Wouldn't cord or moleskin in the sleeves make it difficult to get in & out of? I imagine it would catch on everything you wear (long sleeves of course).
Surely cotton drill is recommended by the manufacturer for a reason.

The LHB is a jacket meant for fall and spring temperatures, not the depths of a NY winter especially if you don't want to layer. For that you'd probably want an Irvin or something of the kind. A lounge member up in Canada (can't recall his name) recently had a heavy steer jacket heavily lined in alpaca that was about as warm-looking as I've seen.
