Wormser Texan with the first wear of my Hudson's Bay point blanket Mackinaw coat. Playing with my wife's new selfie stick. :D

I found Moore - Smith Co. Boston was a wholesale house so my feeling is this hat was sourced from Europe. My guess would be a Austrian / Czechoslovakian hat company like JHS, AP or BB. The eagle in the Genuine Velour logo is very similar to some of the ones that appear in my recent liner plate collection (from the Czech Republic) that includes JHS, AP and BB. The whole situation back then was murky so hard to take things at face value. Here is an obit for Fitz Henry Smith one of the founders that apppeared in The American Hatter (1918).

I actually read that quote in my research (I believe they also had a retail store). However, I do not have the extensive knowledge you have of that period or the players. Thank you so much for putting the hat in context. That would also explain the european size sticker. Out of curiosity, did those hats tend to have liners?

Thanks, again!

Joao – That 7X CB is outstanding. Beautiful.

Strapped – Sharp ensemble today.

Fruno – That’s a great Dalton. Did you say you were looking for a Dalton Hat Box?

Mmbarnes – I WANT that hat. Damn. I love the Stetson Vita Felts and those colors are unbelievable. Well don(n)e(d).

David – Great Penman.

Hato – Very nice. Looks almost “stingy crown” on you.

RJR – Beautiful colors.

Danielle – Bello e molto informale.

Java – You’re looking serious there. Great hat.

Casechopper – The leaves are falling but that is a standout hat!

Knotten – Easy to see why you love it.

Guitar – Gorgeous hat. Love the ribbon and the color.

For me, my 40’s Marathon.

Hey everyone!

Looking sharp as always.
I agree, nothing wrong with the smell of a nice hat.:)

A few months ago, I found a beat up old Mallory that was in need of love. It's an Aristocrat Quality, and the consensus was that it began life in the 50's as a porkpie. I fixed it up as a mid-ribbon open crown, since at that time I wasn't into porkpies and it was too short for anything else.
Then it just sat there, not being worn. I guess I wasn't into open crowns either.
So, I decided to re-porkify it. My tastes in hats is expanding to include things that just this past year I would have not seen myself wearing. I recently got a Marathon porker that I like, so why not?

Te post-porkification product:

My first serious attempt at a tele crown. Not as easy as it might seem to do a decent one. The felt on this one reminds me a lot of that of my Stetson Twenty Five. One of the nicest feeling ones I own. I think it will get more head tine now.
Have a great day!

D'oh! In the shot on the stair rail, I can see where I forgot to remove the masking tape I used to hold the ribbon while I tacked it...nothing like a hi-res pic to point out every hair, speck of fuzz or lapse of attention to detail.

I really can't see the finish from the photos. Still I think my hunch is probably correct. There were heavy import fees so this might have been a way to get around them. Other mystery Velours have popped up in the past. Usually if the hat had a tip patch you can see the glue residue. Also the inside crown felt was usually smoothed.

Here is an old BB Velour that didn't have a liner. You can see the glue residue from the missing tip patch.

Yes I am. I have five Daltons now, I guess it's only natural to try to find "accoutrements."

For me, my 40’s Marathon.

That's nice. I hear those hats are best in the long run.

I think your porker looks nice. Does it smell like BBQ?

Nah, I mean the one I have. I picked it up at the Hatco outlet last winter. It's much more purple than any other Caribou I've ever seen, vintage or new (maybe why it was at the outlet). I'm awaiting the light grey. Where did you pick yours up?
Ordered from Pork Pie Hatters in NY.
