My new bargain Highwayman!

Think I got myself a real bargain on the bay. Arrived yesterday. A new, with tags Aero Highwayman for £368/$530!

The seller was selling it for a friend who had bought it a few years ago but decided it didn't suit him and has been hanging in hiswardrobe since.

Being a big bloke myself, they don't come up too often in Fat Git sizes and this is a 52"! To be honest, I think I could have got away with a 50" but there is plenty of comfort room for a jumper as it will be mostly for winter wear and I like 'em baggy anyway. I'm not the right shape to show off a tight fitting jacket!

Not sure what the leather is though. The Aero site didn't give me much of a clue. It is horsehide and quite heavy but it is a sort of semi matt finish, quite soft too so comfortable from the box. The seller is meeting the owner thisweekend and will ask him if he remembers what it was!

Very nice alpaca lining too.

Jacket looks great, as expected. Leather looks like oil-pull-hide.

That was my best guess too mate. Wasn't sure though as it seems more of a matt finish than the photos on the Aero site and other places I've found on t'internet. Whatever it is, I'm well pleased!

Oil pull batches can vary greatly in finish - from shiny to Matt and close to nubuck.

As someone who is a bit green where civilian jackets are concerned and the leathers too, with this (suspected) oil-pull hide, would he use conditioner on it?

Interesting. What would happen if one did? I ask as I use conditioners on my various sheepskin leather jackets and have done on my A2s in the past with no ill effects - but I find that my Aero ANJ-3 is different in that it just doesn't seem to need any these days as it's supple and, well, doesn't seem to require any, so I don't. Is the oil-pull the same?

My Aero oil pull HB is a little on the suede side in places rather than completely smooth leather. Imagine adding conditioner to suede. It would just give it a dirty darkened appearance IMO.
