Vanson Mark 2 Cobra - Cotton lined, Pre 2000 update to perforated nylon mesh lining and mid-sleeve vents added. Not perfect (had been on the ground, left arm very little scrapes) but excellent jacket and well broken in. $85.00 with shipping from Chicago. Photos to follow.

I wonder why did the seller think it was worth that super ultra low price.

The jacket popped up in the local classifieds, bundled with a pair of leather motorcycle pants and when I phoned about it the seller only said that it's a high quality jacket from Lewis. I figured if they want to sell LL jacket for $30 who am I to argue. I was sure it was a ****... It wasn't and when the jacket arrived, I called the guy to thank him for the great transaction which was when I realized that the seller thought this jacket was made by Levi's... They pronounced it the same, I never had a clue.

I sold the pants for $30.

That's the second time LL jacket appeared for this sort of money here; the first time I called the seller and explained it to them that their jacket (Bronx) is worth a few hundred dollars.

My missus has a nose for a bargain. She can happily spend hours rummaging through the clothes rail in charity and thrift shops. With her artistic flair and sewing skills she has recently hit on a goldmine. She looks for oversize trousers for me, the quality of what she's found, all look made to measure, and the fabrics range from linen to wool to rich cotton.
She unpicks the waist band, then unpicks the centre seem that runs through the crotch area. She then removes the zipper fly. The upper hem of the waist, that's the hidden hem under the waistband, is unpicked, reduced and sewn back, creating a higher waistline. The centre seem is reduced to fit me and then sewn back. Period buttons and button holes replace the zipper fly. Support buttons for suspenders/braces are sewn into the inside of the waistband. Finally the trouser hems are let down, before being turned up to create a generous cuff. When the cuff has been sewn in she reinforces the new hem line with hidden bias binding to prevent chaffing. The result:

The pair of trousers above have a much straighter definition owing to their being a much bigger size originally. The colour is actually a washed lemon look. The material is linen.
The pair below are a natural, rich cotton. An ideal pair to wear on warmer days. It wasn't possible to lose the taper appearance owing to them being much closer to my size. Less material, less hem line and so on. Even so, she did an excellent job. To date she has found six pairs and altered all to the above spec. Here's those cotton ones. The lemon pair were four pounds, the blue, four pounds-fifty pence. The others were all under five pounds a pair.
