Hat Dimension Compensation Based on Size

Forgive me if this has been answered before, but to what extent do hats typically compensate the dimensions depending on the size of the hat?
For example, larger sizes would be taller and have wider brims.
I recently acquired a Dobbs Jet 707 which supposedly is to have a 1 7/8 inch brim, but mine, in size 7 3/8 measures a full 2 inches.

It's my experience that the brim is seldom is as stated.
As a seller the brim size in all my listings is always followed by "(approx.)".

To no extend, I believe. Any variation from the stated is random.
