My father is a sound designer.
He makes art with sound. They met through mutual friends.
They played around with some stuff and my dad did some of his recordings.
I met him briefly after a concert appearance here in Antwerp. Still to this day the most bone chilling concert I've seen.

I grew up listening to Toots and Miles Davis.

It's hard to lose the artists you grew up with, especially. I started playing sax in 5th grade, elementary school. By highschool I was fortunate enough to be playing with some incredible musicians, some of whom play professionally now. We got to play as guest band at jazz festivals, NAJE (Nat'l Assoc. of Jazz Educators) conferences and our own Seattle Opera house annual collegiate jazz festival with college bands and pro guest artists like Bill Watrous, Frank Rosolino, and Lew Tabackin/Toshiko Akiyoshi. We got to play with Al Cohn and Zoot Sims in Wichita. Man, could those cats blow (and drink)!!!

The little alto sax player I was nuts about in high school went on to N Texas State and A Swedish Piano player named Per Danielsson snapped her up. Tamara and Per play all the time in Orlando and around and about, and play summer gigs in Sweden and Europe. I have some of their CD's as well as one they played on with Jack Wilkins, a great tenor sax man from Sweden (Dear Old Stockholm).

We all had the same private woodwinds instructor, Johnnie Jessen from Seattle. His most well known student was Kenny Gorelick, better known as Kenny G.

So... a bit long in the mouth, but wanted to say how sad I am to hear of the passing of Toots.

It is a sad, sad day.

An amazing unique Belgian musician has sadly passed away.
I had the pleasure of meeting this man once, my father worked with him from time to time.
Sweet, kind and so very funny.

You will be missed, Toots!
Saw him in concert when he was about 89. He was still a great musician and obviously enjoyed being out there. RIP Toots.

most of yesterday: Tumwater silverbelly. I took some time to reblock, flange, and re-crease this one. While I enjoyed the uniqueness of the immense crown height and almost galleon-like flange, I'm finding I like wearing it more in the new slightly lower and wider diamond.

Winds are high today, might need to don something more snug/ wind-resistant.

Looks great Jeff!
