How many times have you said to yourself―doing the dishes or during slow days at work―"Geez, I wish someone would scan the entire run of Jugend, the magazine that gave its name to the Teutonic version of Art Nouveau, and post it online for my elucidation?" I know, right?
Well, someone did. Really! The University of Heidelberg, can you even believe it? Now you can peruse art of the day, as well as articles and cartoons about things that you probably don't know about in a language that you probably don't read, in type that you can't decipher.

Yes, Jugend gave its name to Jugendstil.

Jugend magazine was the beginning of Jugendstil and Ver Sacrum later took it to its meaningful end as the movement died, both in the trenches of WWI and on the canvas of Egon Schiele.

As the Secessionists used to say, "Der Zeit ihre Kunst, der Kunst ihre Freiheit".

This is great stuff. Vienna (my adopted home) is filled with Jugendstil architecture that is all too often over-looked.
