While many people know that today is the 82nd birthday of Parker Bros. game Monopoly, it stuns me that 7,579,097,230 of the 7,579,097,231 people on this planet do not know that November 5 is international "Wear Your Adam THE POLAR Day."
With humble contrition, I would ask you to forgive that oversight on my part, and that of all Brits.
November the fifth is Guy Fawkes night, known more colloquially as: Bonfire night. On November the 5th, 1605, nine conspirators plotted to overthrow the government, blow up the parliament building and return Catholicism to the country. They were caught and met a most gruesome end. The stooge set up to do the deed, that is, blow up parliament, was one Guy Fawkes. An effigy of Guy is placed atop of a bonfire and burned, then fireworks are let off. Today it's become less of a ritual, but good food and beer are still consumed. I know politics are banned but I'm sure this little dereliction of that will be overlooked.
Whenever the governing party in power is having a hard time of it, you will often see a piece of graffiti that reads: "Come back Guy Fawkes, your country needs you.

Forgive my ignorance, is an antipilianist one who kicks ass?
Ha!

It's someone who hates hair (and might kick the ass of some dirty hippie who has lots of it).

Interestingly, my bald spot suggests that I AM an antipilianist on an organic level. Happily, I don't get enraged and violently lash out at hippies. Of course, that may change as I get older and balder. I'll have to be vigilant and watch for the symptoms.

it is a bit turgid hard truths. Each word is chosen so perhaps hard to get through. I've probably read that book but it's a while ago. The essay was granted a 74% by Michael Gallagher who has his own Wikipedia page. His version of 100% is a first or 70% so I reckon 75% would have been better. Still it was Gallagher who submitted it for the national prize. It is short but arguably even years later, my finest work. Enjoy.
I'm looking forward to the read, Karl. Thank you for the link.

Lol, Keep an eye out for those symptoms and remember one knows to rid themselves of dirty hippies in a non violent matter is to simply play some Slayer. :)

Well, that's a whole 'nother matter, indeed. I've been in that situation myself. However, an employer who would demand such a thing of me, especially in my profession, would not have me as an employee. I was once fired from a job at - get this - a record store and head shop, because I wouldn't cut my hair. And it was actually shorter than the day they hired me. And the owner assaulted me on my way out the door after I was fired.

Good times.
My good friend retired on the settlement check he got for being fired for not cutting his hair. He was a Vietnam war protester with long hair since the late 60's; got arrested for protesting on the White House lawn. He was hired at an oil company, worked there for 20-some years when they decided to change the policy on hair length for men. He simply replied, while pointing to a recently hired female, "I'll cut my hair when she cuts hers." He got an attorney to file a wrongful termination claim based on sexism and they settled a day before trial. He was barred from disclosing the amount, but assured me it was enough to retire on and play the stock market. He also had one of the nicest collections of historical battle rifles and submachine guns I'd ever seen outside of a museum.

My state is a right to work state so unfortunately I have no grounds for suit. :( But it is inflammatory and aggravating as all hell that other employees where I work can have facial hair but not me! I was and still am furious about the whole thing!!

For the peons among us that don't own the highly coveted, but rarely discovered Polar, I suggest a yeoman's felt like my second tier Aristocrat (as repaired by Mike Miller of NW hats). My humble submission, sir.

Earlier this morning saw the remnants of an overnight frost, there was a slight coating on the garage roof. Now, although still cold, the sun shines. Warm enough for a summer shirt, cool enough for one of John B's finest.

Good on ya Sir. Keep the summer shirts in the front of the closet, even in the British Isles!

This morning began by picking up the Sunday paper in a vtg. Stetson Eagle Vita Felt. This has very lightweight maleable felt. An oldy, but very special.

The crown tag is always a treat to see.

The leather sweat shows some age, but is comfortable when wearing.
I wish I could observe this special holiday. I do tip my hat to you for keeping it alive. Love the Polar!

My outside chore list was started and the lightweight vintage Stetson was actually cold for the top of my head. I swtiched to a Gannon (moss with gill ribbon treatment) to continue with my efforts outside.

But don't you need a hippie drill to make it up to the stage and the sound system?

(Please note hats in image. I remain on topic. Well... Sort of anyway...)

I still believe there are laws about equal treatment. I'm surprised an employer would ban you from having facial hair if others in your office sport it. I'm not up on Idaho employment law... but unless the others are grandfathered in and you're a new hire that smacks of employer bias to me. I just started at Cabelas. No visible tatoos is the rule for all new hires, but there are a few guys who started there when the store opened about 4 years ago and they are still ok to sport their tat's.

A great two-hat start to the day, Eric. Outstanding felt!

Thanks Karl.

Your paper was a good read. It also laid bare just how pathetically ignorant I am about Irish history.

Can you recommend any well-written, one volume history that might help me remedy that?
lol, not a phrase I use unless. You have a bar degree, possibly legal and alcohol, and you think there is a book? I wish there was man.

Almost finished with this Navy Blue 3X Resistol conversion. This is the hat that Michael R gifted to me. It started out as a Western. I'm reusing all that I can that was original to the hat. I just finished the brim binding. The hat ribbon isn't sewn on yet. I want to see if I can clean it up a bit first. But, this is what I have so far. More pics to come in the Conversion Corral...

Thanks Red. Glad I can provide a treat. Hats are to be worn. Good thing I can rotate thru them so that they do not wear out before their time. A half century ago folks must have gone thru a couple of hats a day with all of their physical efforts.

A great two-hat start to the day, Eric. Outstanding felt!

Thanks Doug.

A nod to both of you and Fruno's recent pics of the natural beaver felt hats of late. The pics have has me reaching for a similar felt for an errand to pick-up chain saw lube and bird seed.

Ahhhh, natural.
