Breaking in leather jackets in sauna and/or steam room?

Wear it and wear it often. I don't think the weathering from a sauna will compare to the weathering from frequent wear.

Have your wife wear the jacket, with nothing underneath. Much better than you wearing it.

My wife does in fact know, and was appropriately horrified.

In any case, given the advice here I thought better against the plan. Just using a good old spray bottle to soften some areas gently, as suggested.

Excellent choice. Although I do like to use some old baseball glove techniques to make a jacket a little softer at the corners, there's no real substitute for spending the time slowly breaking a jacket in through regular wear. At first it seems stiff and unrelenting but you'll suddenly realize one day that you have a very comfortable, custom-fitted jacket. Think of it in terms of the difference in a cake you bake in the oven at 350 for 40 minutes and one of those God-awful microwave cakes that pops out in 90 seconds.
