Flechet especially made for "A. Meer - Strasbourg"

Another "French grey" to go on with the serie
sqtfz7.jpg

One grey in the moltitude of shades of this color so used in the golden era of the hats

This grey was called "Dolmen" in the Flechet factory and the other indications seem to date this hat from the late fifties, early sixties

Very soft felt with matching pleated ribbon and trim on the brim

European proportions in the brim and crown

White lining and not "special" features for this Flechet
Have a nice day and compliments to all the lounger for the beatiful hats showed.

Yesterday I wore a vtg.Stetson Viscount while grilling a repast for my wife and I. This vintage back bowed hat has a lovely camel hued felt. Cheers.

This morning out for a dog walk in the new snow wearing a 50's Stetson Playboy. This Playboy has a bigger 2 7/8" brim. The soft felt feels terrific in your hand. The ribbon has some age fade, but overall the hat is minty. A grand Bon Vivant!

When I joined the ICSFHOW (that's the International Confraternity of Stiff Felt Hat Owners and Wearers) back in 2012, I covenanted that I would never go 9 full days without wearing a stiff felt hat.

Since today is the 9th day, I'm taking the c. 1900 vented Dunlap out for a spin.

Happy Monday.

I didn't get that memo...I'll have to remedy this omission. This Dunlap is one of my favorite Derbys floating around the lounge. So very cool looking.

Snow? Who ordered snow? I didn't order snow. It's April ninth, for Pete's sake!
Oh well, happy Monday. OPS-era Game Bird.

Thanks!

I was really surprised. When I first emailed the lady selling it locally I originally thought Intook a 7 5/8 and she originally told me she wasn't sure of the size and thought it might be a 7. A week later I emailed her back after finding put my head is 23 inches around so I thought hmmm that is a 7 3/8 and asked her if she could measure the inside of the hat. She replied a few hours later and said they found a size for it of 7 1/2. I thought hmmm it might be a little big but it fits right on.

To top it off, my head is very oval and long from front to back and this hat happens to be a long oval.

Wow back in the day hats were so popular the manufacturers could make them in many sizes and head shapes too. Wow.

I looked last night on Ebay and saw that larger sized Whippets seem to command a higher price and instantly a thought came to mind. Should I sell it.

But then I thought. Really where am I going to fund a hat from the 50s that fits me and is a style that is neither to large nor to small and I think this one fits the bill.

Now I don't know what future to search for down the road.

Maybe a Derby?

It's a first vintage hat story for the ages, my friend. I still do not own a Whippet, though it's on my gonna list. The right one will crop up.

The universe of vintage hats is so stylistically diverse. And the quality of the felt out there is just mind-boggling. You are going to have a blast feeding the hat monkey. I'm looking forward to seeing your collection and knowledge grow.

BEST FUN EVER!

Thanks Mike.

It's not a memo, though. It's a contract. If I fail to abide, they take a hat. A fate worse than death...

One of your best looking hats, Charlie. Appears to have just fallen out of the factory and onto your head yesterday. Simply beautiful condition...
