Great looking,HJ,nice that you have a beader that will work with you.
Thanks Bob. I would like to learn how to bead myself...something to do in my old age someday. I did look into learning horse hair hitching a little bit. It doesn't hold the same appeal for me.

With weather coming in this afternoon the last of our Spring calves is now on the ground. There are still two more expected by our Co-op partners. Time to celebrate with some biscuits & gravy, with hash browns on top & crispy bacon on the side. Wearing my 1989 Kevin O'Farrell.

Just had some light rain here. Hope you didn't get much snow there. I haven't been up there in several yrs, Bob. Used to come up & play some pool on the north side at Don McCoys place. Can't remember exactly where it was but it was on a main drag, north side, east of Clive. Don may be deceased or too old now; don't know.

I'm not familiar with that spot.I lived in Clive for several years but McCoy's doesn't ring a bell.

It came to be last night, I think it was in Urbandale. Is Urbandale on the north side & east of Clive?
Yes,but the suburbs have grown tremendously in the last decade. You'd need to look at a map now because the 'burbs have pretty much grown together. You can't easily distinguish West Des Moines,Clive,Windsor Heights,Urbandale,Waukee and Johnston.

I've got two Stetson Skyline fur felt hats that fit well, but I find I sweat quite a bit with the inside leather bands. My local (3 hours from me) hat shop sent me a couple of those microfiber (Dry-lex I think) inserts that attach with velcro strips to the front of the inside of the hat sweat band.

However, now the hats fit a little too snug. Should I gently stretch the hats with steam and a hat stretcher to accomodate the new inserts? Or should I suck it up and sweat in the original configuration until the leather bands soften and become more permeable?

That is strictly a personal choice. You may not like the feel of the microfiber once you have stretched the sweat. Some claim that perforations in the sweat help.See some of Black Sheep's examples.

Thank you. Not sure I fully understand- "Some claim that the perforations in the sweat help..." Which perforations- the microfiber?

Either way, I'm not sure it's worth me having messed with it. For now, I can easily reverse by taking out the velco and taped strips, without messing with the leather sweat. If I wear it enough, does the leather sweat just break in sufficiently? Can I be certain that Stetson uses real leather in their 6X fur felts?

The good news is that the microfiber additions were inexpensive, and can be used elsewhere if needed. Bottom line- if I'm feeling "western" and don't want to sweat, I've got my Atwood Hereford 7X perforated in palm leaf with their version of the Dry-lex sweat.

Perforations in the leather sweatband itself.

Need some help guys! Some where here a photo was posted of a half dozen or so modern Texas Rangers in jeans, white shirts and white hats bellied up to the bar. All of them with gun belts still on. Anyone know where that picture is and where it came from? I have searched and have yet to find it again. Love to be able to copy and save the photo. Thanks for the help!
