The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

I received the Borsa Torino today in a smashed box. I'll give it a day or so to see if it will come back into shape on its own before steaming out the creases. I'll have to drop it off at Henry The Hatter and have a new sweatband installed as this one is already flaking. The felt is medium weight and easily conforms and holds any bash I throw at it. Overall I'm very pleased with this $50 investment and I'm sure it will become my everyday hat, my knock around Borsa. It does have the dark sweatband and the liner appears to be glued in. Would anyone like to give me a date on this hat? Please and Thank You... View attachment 207569 View attachment 207570 View attachment 207572 View attachment 207573 View attachment 207574
Well, for $50 you can't go wrong with a hat like this. Nice looking modern Borsalino which probably dates from the aighties or nineties. It doesn't have the gold imprint on the bow keeper, so I'd say late eighties is more likely.

I let myself be seduced by a magnificent Borsalino owned by Bowen color M. Agata and when I found a similar one on the Italian market I bought it
m-agata-1-r-jpg.208027

Borsalino size 5 or 57 cm.
m-agata-2-r-jpg.208028

The Borsalino has lost its lining over the course of its life and needs to be remodeled mainly because it "keeps the imprint" of the previous shape. Some problems also in the sweatband

The color of the felt is "M. Agata" the color of the ribbon "Coffee" and the type "Ecosca"
m-agata-4-r-jpg.208030

These are the measures: the brim are at 6 cm, the crown at 12 and the ribbon is 3 cm high.
m-agata-5-r-jpg.208031

Made in Italy and sold in Sardinia, a magnificent island in the Mediterranean, in the 1950s

Also for this purchase the love for the hats that I like is worth, I hope it will make some loungers happy
A very cool find, Daniele, and I like the look of it very much. Even if it does have some issues: misto felt, ecosca model: what's not to like?

Picked this up from France. Some of my very best Borsalinos seem to come from there (they are just quite good at hiding them).
Borsalino Cocisca in Dattero colour and nutria felt. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. The quality of the felt and the hand of it is Borsalino at its best. Lightweight too at just under 100 grams. It's a keeper (if that wasn't obvious).

I posted this on the New Hats thread, but wanted to post it here also:

Thanks to the Great Hat Enabler Stefan @steur, I am now an official member of the Dutch Connection !

Received this absolutely stunning Borsalino this weekend, but was waiting for some Sun to break out the Canon L Series Glass to take photos worthy of this hat.

Borsalino Ecosan Qualita Extra Extra Superiore in the color Averla. Beautiful color and wonderful felt. The fit is perfect, thanks to Stefan sending me the measurements first. I can't take it off my head, been wearing it around the house in the evenings, LOL.

Raw Edge Brim at 2.75"
Crown height at 4" at the pinch
Stefan thinks it dates between 1945-1955.

This thing is just absolutely my style, and I don't think I could design a custom with better proportions for me.

Stefan even threw in a couple of freebies that I will post later - very generous !!
Thanks again Stefan, it was an absolute pleasure dealing with you and I hope there will be many more.

Borsalino Celesca Ontano. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 7cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. This is a coffin box hat in the Qualitá Extra Extra Superiore and it shows. The hand of the felt is outstanding and the hat came back to life without much fuss after being squeezed in a box for about 70 years. It does need some TLC though, because it has collected some dirt and stains for some reason. Not as lightweight as I would have expected from a coffin box hat with its 118 grams on the scale (but no heavyweight). Label points towards the 1936-1953 time period. I'm thinking late forties to early fifties for this one.

This is what these coffin box hats look like before you apply steam and what not. This one required a good deal of mink oil for the sweatband as well. I do wonder how they got the stains on there though. It might have to go in a naphta bath for good measure.

My first heathered Borsalino, a "Tasso" in Misto Gris Fer:
IMG_1463.jpg IMG_1464.jpg IMG_1465.jpg IMG_1466.jpg IMG_2193.JPG
Specs:
2-3/4" Brim (w/ 1/4" overwelt)
5-1/2" Crown (open)
1-7/8" Ribbon
108g Weight
The label is slightly disfigured but I strongly suspect this is another Gorasgu given the sizing specs. It shares several similar characteristics to my other Gorasgu. Wonderous, lusciously soft felt that can be manipulated with little to no effort at all. The only thing worse than my amateurish pictures would be my words to describe this hat, so I'll stop while I'm behind.

Well done Dr. Steur for saving that one.

Someone should call the hat police though and report Borsalino for crimes against hatmanity! ;-)

Thank you, Steve. The patient came from very good stock and is up and about. Full recovery make take some more time and effort. Borsalino put it in its box, but it wasn't meant to stay there for seventy years! That is just neglect; who would do such a thing?
