Hey guys,

First time poster, long time lurker. I'm in the proces of ordering a Aero jacket but I'm going back and forth in my mind about proper jacket/sleeve length. I know this depends on individual preferences and also jacket styles, but I'd like to get some reference to know how Aero sizes their standard jackets and what is a good fit in you guys's opinion.

I'm 6'2 and this is a relatively short 23'' back length premier half belt (way to short) the standard length for this model is a 25'' back, Holly (who's been very helpful and patient) advised to size up from that to 26/26.5'' based on my length. In my mind that would be quite long? compared to the 23''. I have a denim jacket with a 25'' back that fits me just right but of course the material is thinner so not sure if it compares.

Thoughts? I'd be curious about your length and preferred jacket length.
(p.s. this jacket is for sale @ the classifieds)

This is personal taste and can be contentious. People with period style interests will often argue the shorter the better.

The jacket you have above I would wear at 26 to 27 inches back length. 23 is way too short in my view. I am also six two. I require all short jackets to fall about an inch over the belt-line and overlap the top of my jeans back pocket. All my short jackets are around 27 inches long. Torso length has some bearing on this.

A denim jacket will fit roughly the same and I feel more comfortable with them slightly shorter but I would be reluctant at six two to go any shorter than 26 inches for any jacket.

A long half belt or other 3/4 style I would wear at 29 inches.

I am also 6'2", i like my MC jackets to be aorund 25-25.5" long, my Aero Bootleggers (based on the 50s halfbelt) are 26" in the back and i would not change that length. Longer than that and it start interfering with the back pockets which i dislike.
To me if it covers the back pockets it isn't a short jacket anymore.

Have a look at this thread, it has a bunch of pictures with measurements, it should help you decide.

That's great, thanks man! I love the bootlegger, doubting between that, the hooch-hauler and the premier half belt actually.

Are you going up a chest size too? Cause you look a bit like a leather saussage in these pics...
It looks to me like you should consider doing the old tapering down a the bottom hem trick (like a 42 chest tapering down to a 40 waist), you look like you have quite a large chest to waist drop.

I‘m 6‘5“ and my Aero Café Racer is 26“ long. Back is ok, but the front is 1“ to short.
My other Jackets are 27.1“ (69 cm) and fine with low waist jean.
Sleeve length is 28.75“

Yes for sure, this jacket is a 38 and it's way too small for me. After sending Holly my measurements we decided on a 42/40 taper. Thanks for the great information in the thread you linked, awesome collection!

I am 6’1 with a fairly long torso. I order all of my custom jackets with a back length of 26.5”. I don’t mind much if they are off half an inch either way but any shorter than 26” and I find myself tugging at the back to pull the jacket down.

I’m 6’2” as well. Ideal length for my taste is 26.5 to 27”. I do think a lot depends on torso length and body proportion as well as jacket style and personal preference.

Another 6’2er chiming in - my ideal back length is also 26.5 to 27” dependant on specific style. Any shorter than that never feels right

I'll chime in too as I'm 6'2" as well. As Seb said above, jacket and sleeve lengths depend on torso and arm lengths. I am somewhat "high-waisted" but have long arms. I need 27" to 27.5" sleeves, and 26.5" to 27" body length to cover a 1.5" belt I wear with jeans.

My recommendation is to follow Holly Calder's advice. Over multiple jackets I've bought from Aero, her advice has always been spot on, and you proceed at your own risk if you deviate from what she recommends.

In the OP’s case a size 42 taper to 40 with 26.5" body length should just about nail it. Offhand I would say 27" sleeves should also be a safe measurement too.

I'd also go with the recommendations of AERO - People there are used to deal with the different Body types and will provide proper advice - just let them know what exactly you have in mind

I’m 5’11 and 23” back is entirely to short for me! I spec’d all my Aeros with a 27” back length and they fall just below my belt. I’m some cases I think that may have been too long but yeah man at 6’2 you would need 26” at minimum, dependent on your torso length.

Wow!

TFL is full of tall people.
This is why I cant ever find any good deals around here! Im 5'7 ish 5'8 if I stand up straight all the way ha. My weight fluctuates right around the 130 mark. I see so many 40-42 sizes and Im like hey wait where are all the 36-38s? They pop up now and then of course, but not nearly enough. Now I know why I am apparently a child amongst men;)
