Thoughts about fit?

This is a jacket I recently bought here. I love it! but am not comfortable with the fit. I feels too short in the sleeves and torso. Anyone have thoughts?

I agree with the peanut gallery: The sleeves and shoulders look fine, but the front is 2-3 inches too short for my taste and mid-rise jeans.

It will hurt like a bigger to part with this but I may continue my lonely quest for the perfect jacket. I appreciate your feedback. I’ve been bugging my wife with how much I love the jacket but how uncertain I am with the fit. Everything else about it is so amazing though.

Wearable, perhaps correct for the time period, wouldn't be out of place with high waisted pants, but I'd too prefer another 1.5" on the body. Sleeves are just fine.

Because it's a button front, I think it looks short in front, due to the coat connotations. If it was a zippered model, it'd be less apparent.

You could alway's follow @ton312 's lead and take the measurements from this jacket to create V2. It might cost you twice what a preowned coat would, but it would probably be a lot closer to what you want. The good news is you can hopefully sell this one to recoup most of what you've invested.

Sleeve and back length look just right to me, the front is at least an inch shorter than I like though. I have a couple jackets that fit like this and I never wear them because every time I put them on I start to obsess about the fact that I can see my belt buckle...

I agree with everything you all are saying. Thank you for the feedback. I think rather than buying a new custom I will keep looking for the grail. The search is part of the experience for me. I’m going to use this fit to post a WTB. I got this jacket using a WTB here. Hopefully I’ll have some luck.

Do you have a hard time selling the ones you’re not comfortable in. I think it will be hard to part with this one.

Ah. The classic Aero "perfect in the back but 2" short in the front"-fit. :D This appears to be a custom based on the 50s HB and not a Maxwell, hence no front drop. Sleeve length is perfect, backlength too. I would look out for a jacket with similar measurements but a front drop design. Maxwell may be what you are looking for.

I like it, I don't see it as too short in these photos.

...But if it feels too short when worn then I don't think theres a cure for that.

Huh, I thought this was a Maxwell. That’s what I asked for in my WTB. How can you tell the difference?

Maxwell is built on the 30s HB pattern which has a front “beak” or drop of 2.5-3” past the back.

The 50s HB does not.

Mine seems to have a little beak.
