Congrats on your upcoming New Hat Day BillC. Mr.Black does craft and retail some incredibly fine woven hats. Cheers!

I see on the Black website that this model comes with options on brim curl, brim width, ribbon work and the obvious woven grades. Lots of options. What options have you worked out for your new hat sir? What is the delivery date on your warm weather hat?

BillC, my question above is out of curiosity. Over a year ago when I was considering a "finer" custom panama I went with a Newt at the Royal Monti. I am happy with my choices and the resultant woven hat. Pics below. I doubt I will order a modern fine woven panama hat again. This hat is as pricey as I am comfortable with and it fills my needs. I am satisfied and enjoy this one.

Lovely hat! Newt is made by Optimo, as you may know. The owner knew Graham from his days in Hawaii, and may well have been one of the initial inspirations into hats, aside from the Gentleman he purchased the business from in Chicago. Knowing you have Optimo behind you for the followup is a big plus.

Thanks for the response and hat compliment. I knew of an association, but not the details. Good to know.

I had only posted the hat in order to validate my question to BillC, OP, about his new Brent Black. I was curious not having handled or seen one personally. The Brent Blacks that appear on the forum have been gorgeous. There is something about a quality "panama" hat that is very intriguing. For me the balance between the artisanship of the weaver, quality of material, the artisanship of the hatter and the delicate nature of the hat has my admiration I am in awe of the finished hat. I see them as wearable "art pieces." Precious, delicate and usable. Unfortunately my words are not poetic at this time of the evening. I hope my thoughts are clear enough.

BTW: Daizawaguy, I recall your panama hats are stunners.

BillC, thanks for the post as it has me thinking of your panama hat and other glorious panama hats. I may just have to tune in and take a gander at the glorious ones posted on The Fedora Lounge's Panama hat thread .

Cheers, Eric -

We had a great chat. He's very approachable and obviously enormously capable. A wonderful guy. I ordered a Monte Carlo. BillC
Did Brent give you an estimate on how long it would before you received the hat? Just curious on the wait time. Regardless, I do hope you will post it here when you get it. The hats on his website look fantastic.
