Came across a hatmaker from Colombia on Instagram called Superior Hats. Their hats look really nice but couldn't find any mention of them here on the forum. Does anyone know anything about them?
Would you be hesitant to by a custom hat over the internet?

Most custom hatters do at least a part of their business via the internet. It is not necessarily ideal but it is the norm and the answer to your question is: "It depends". Can they determine if you are a long oval or reg oval or???. Do they have blocks to match your size and head shape? It is not a matter of "over the internet" as it is a question..."how skilled are they as hatters and what quality materials do they use?"

I chatted with them for a bit, and got their order form. They make beaver and hare felt hats as well as palm/Panama hats. Prices are decent for the beaver. I would love to get a beaver felt hat.

I’ve ordered several custom hats and I’ve yet to meet one of the hatters in person. If you know what you want and know how to relate it, and if you’re using a good hatter, it’s not difficult to order a hat over the internet. I’ve tried a few of the bargain hatters too, but I’ve never been completely happy with the results. You need to manage your expectations and realize that the best $200 custom hats isn’t usually going to equal the best $500 custom hat. That said, I’d put a current $400 Gannon up against most $1,000 customs. I have customs that aren’t perfect and that don’t have an aura of magnificence about them, but they make me smile, look nice, and fit properly. Not every custom hat needs to be a work of art. It’s like enjoying your Honda Accord…you don’t have to own a Ferrari to enjoy the drive. It’s when you pay Ferrari prices but get a Yugo that there’s a problem.

I was quoted $330 shipped, customized to your order.

A bound brim 100% beaver Gannon will cost you $375 plus a modest shipping charge. Superior Hats might make a great hat for you, but it’s a gamble. For a bit more you can get a Gannon and know you’re getting an exceptional hat. I endorse several custom hat makers, but if you’re looking for a fedora (not a homburg, derby, or something a bit odd), Gannon has what I think is the best bang for your buck.

Thanks for the recommendation, will check out Gannon too.
