Hello Guys
I am from the UK and cursed with a large head (62cm) so I am pretty limited to decent hats , however I have a couple of felts and they weigh 11.5 grams and I tend to forget I am wearing them. The other day I acquired from a charity shop a Chinese Indiana Jones fur felt....it’s a bit stiff and someone has cut the brim down a bit... but for £10.00 and it fits I had to buy it. The thing I noticed is how heavy it feels....it’s 16.5 grams .Do people get used to the extra weight in time?
Thanks

I think your weights are off. 16.5 grams is approx 1/2 an ounce.

Out of curiosity I weighed a few of my felt hats. They range from 120gr to 150gr depending on size of brim/crown etc. So assuming your post has the decimal in the wrong spot your hat at 165 grams is about 1/2 ounce heavier than the Stetson I am wearing as I type. Not a large difference. And then difference between it and your lightest hat is just 2 ounces. I am not sure I would discern the difference.

In a more general sense, I find well-fitting light fedoras extremely comfortable and often forget I’m wearing them. I have also grown accustomed to much heavier westerns and if they fit right they are also very comfortable, but I don’t forget they’re on. Part of this is also brim size (wind issues) and having more weight out farther from the center that acts as a lever. That same western cut down to a fedora sized hat will still be very heavy for a fedora, but more comfortable to wear. I think you’ll acclimate to the heavier hat quickly as long as it fits well.
