Great.
Thank you for that info.
A medium weight would be around 1.5mm, I guess, with 1.2mm being light and 1.8mm heavyweight, which would be roughly 4, 3 and 5oz., respectively.

Hi MrP I just joined Fedora to start my process in speccing and buying a jacket and I am going to basically get this jacket but without the D pocket and utility pouch and instead have two matching left and right diagonal pockets. I was also considering to ask Aero if the lapels can be made 1cm or so narrower. I hope after giving my measurements I can get a fit like this, slim with a little extra room in the shoulders and arms would be great.

How has the vicenza dark seal leather aged in the last year and a half, did you get a lot more discoloration? :)

Here I must correct... mine is not seal but blackened brown.
Actually, there has hardly been any discoloration. Only on the sleeves, under the arms and on the zippers.
Of course, that's also because lots of jackets and home office are a bad combination to wear jackets often.
Here are a few pictures where the discoloration looks more severe than it actually is.

Tell Aero you want the J-107 front, which is based on the three-pocket design of the Buco J-71 rather than the D-pocket design. Here is a Ridley w J-107 details posted here a few years ago:

Thanks Aloysuis very helpful! That is indeed the pocket design I am looking for and the jacket (without the furry collar) will imo look extremely cool, chic and elegant with such a clean design.

My only other dilemma is which leather to get... I love the colour and visual texture of Vicenza Dark Seal, but MrProper showed that it starts to discolour a little if you lift anything wearing it (which to be fair I likely wouldn't be doing with any regularity). However, it of course doesn't look bad.

I also hear great things about Badalassi. The problem with Badalassi Tobacco however is I just can't figure out the colour... it seems reddish brown in photos I have seen, and I really prefer darker brown leathers.

I may make my own thread soon. :)

The fur collar is an add-on option, not part of the design itself. I'll also note that you don't need the jacket to be a Ridley/slimfit bike to get this configuration. You could get a J106 with the J107 front and (if you want) no belts/epaulettes. Speaking only for myself, I prefer the V shape for a cross-zip jacket, having now owned both.

Mr. Proper's jacket is not dark seal Vicenza. It's "Blackened Brown", i.e. brown with a black pigment finish. All of the Vicenza options other than "Blackened Brown" are dyed-through, meaning there is not a pigment layer that could wear away.

So seal/dark seal Vicenza will not wear away like that. The Badalassi is also dyed-through.

You should also look at the seal goatskin. It's a beautiful leather used on the WWII navy flight jackets, which will be more pliable than the Vicenza yet just as hard wearing if not more so. You can see it on a member here.

Yup thanks, I know the fur collar isn't standard and as a slim and athletic guy I do want a slim fit with more of a V shape. My nightmare would be a baggy jacket that turned me into a formless lump.

Ahh that is great to know and gives me some peace of mins regarding the durability. I am not a fan of the goatskin look vs the Vicenza, which really seems from the photos I have seen to be my ideal dark brown chocolatey colour tone and texture. :)

V-shape and slim-straight aren’t the same thing, just to clarify. My Perfecto is very trim, but it’s V-shaped. My Ridley is slim straight— the ‘drop’ (difference between chest and hem measure) is comparable on paper but the Ridley pretty much immediately pulls in, then goes straight down. The Perfecto is angled.

With mine, I would already say that it is V-shaped. At least a little bit. It goes evenly from 61 cm p2p down to 50 cm hem.

Yes, mine is the same way, but notice how it basically curves into a straight shape instead of being a straight diagonal. I like both, I just wanted to explain to Moo in case he thought that Aero only lets you pick visual details on the Ridley.

EDIT: This second pic, of the J106/Daytona from @Canuck Panda shows what I mean about the V-shape vs the Ridley/Board Racer shape @Moostyle . See how it is an angle, rather than a curve from the underarm that leads into a pretty straight cut down? The two wear very differently in practice.

If you want V shaped slim fit get the same spec as @MrProper, the Ridley. For an extra £25 Badalassi is clearly the right choice, if you don't mind steerhide. If you want rustic look leather then CXL. Vicenza takes a very long time and a lot of wear to look good. It will eventually but takes a while. All three leathers are great but Badalassi is instant gratification, then CXL, then Vicenza, in that time order.
The regular J106/Daytona might have a bigger chest to hem drop but it also has very low arm holes and chubby sleeves. So it only looks V shape when you are riding or have your arms forward. Most of the time it just looks like a balloon. I like it for the comfort but I get why the slim fit Ridleys are more popular. Ridley's higher arm holes will actually give you a better shape even with less aggressive drop.

@MrProper Ridley slim fit, looks more V shape.

And I am guessing Badalassi Tobacco is just like seal? Not sure. Photos looks that way. I have the russet. And it is just that, russet. Maybe that's the photos you've seen, there is some red to the russet yes. But I don't think there is for the tobacco. Best to get a sample before placing order.

Badalassi tobacco looks fairly russet to me. Dark seal brown is darker (to my eyes), though the tobacco Badalassi is absolutely beautiful.

I went for Vicenza because of the blackened brown option (I wanted the water resistance of the pigment finish) but I would agree that Badalassi is even nicer.
