I don’t think I posted this, though I might have forgotten either way.

This is a Stetson export to France, lot 7146 date 30 Nov 1936.

This also matches some of what we know - the roundel trademarked in the 30s, but it has an un-sewn sweatband I would have presumed a 20s hat. So I’ll put more emphasis on the “usually means…”

Stetson Boss Raw Edge The Fray, Lot 798. This hat is also posted on the Join "The Fray" thread. I'm thinking this hat dates about 1907.

This Boss of the Plains, with a 1907 inscription, has a lot number just 3 lots before my Boss Raw Edge. See pg 11 of this thread. That Boss of Plains, and maybe the Stetson Star on pg 1 of this thread, are the only 1 or 2 hats on this thread with a lower lot number, I think.

A great find and looks to be in great shape. The silver foil stamp seems to appear in early 20th century hats, often with poor adhesion which might have led to its demise as a material for foil stamping. It's a lovely thing to find one with the foil still intact. Congratulations!

Stetson Excellent quality "The Avenue" featherweight bowler sporting a red pleated liner and a keyhole size tag. This one is stamped with the Pan Pacific Exposition medal on the liner and Lot 6421 and 185 bow on the inside of the sweat. Another interesting aspect is there is also what appears to be a Made in France stamp on the inside of the sweat.

Lot # 6877. From an Austral model Stetson Clear Nutria "Boss of the Plains" style hat dating about 1934. This hat is basically a twin of a 1907 Austral with a Lot # in the 700's, after the rollover, which is on pg 11 of this thread.

Stetson Number 1 Quality, The Fray. Lot Number looks like 287X, last number unreadable to me. This hat must be from the 1910's. Has 2 1/2 inch brim with curl, 3 inches without.

Stetson “Columbia” stamped in the very supple sweat with silver foil—although in this photo appears gold for whatever reason.
Jonathan @old-fashioned tells me he thinks it may be the only embossed Columbia model posted on the FL.
Lot # may need deciphering.
Looks like LOT 1848 to me, but the 1 might be a seven, though the silver foil could possibly make that assessment void.
Has the remnants of a 6 7/8 round sticker instead of the scalloped style, which may be a determining factor to put the hat later than one might think. I don’t know. I know very little about dating hats this old.
The “MOLE SKIN” embossment is what baffles me. So far, no one has mentioned ever seeing a Stetson with that word appearing on the sweat. If it is some type of finishing technique done to the mystery felt then I can’t distinguish why. Seems to be a typical smooth pounce to me. The fur felt is very fine, soft and pliable making me think it’s a beaver blend and not nutria.
Too small for me, but think I may keep it as is for a while and sell as found some time in the future.
