Since it is Moose hide, a careful treatment with leather sandpaper could help...

I love dogs, and can occasionally agree with a cat, but none of them live in my place, this being only one reason. Sure sorry to see this, wonder if Stuart or Dena could help out here?

I don't actually know what to do about this.

Stuart still has some hide so he can change it, but it is going to cost around 500$ plus shipping both ways.

Not sure what to do, either call it character or go crazy and pay the man.

Just tell Stu to keep the leftover hide. Wear the jacket as it is (maybe experiment with the sandpaper @58panheadfan recommended, maybe some shoecream or other wax). If it still bothers you after some treatment and wears then bite the ****** and send it to Stu.

Nah, it's not that bad. Certainly not a $500 bad and it's not your nicest jacket. I'd make this one an actual mega-beater jacket and see what happens. Like, crawling under a car leather jacket. Cat did you a favor in a way. I know it didn't but let's pretend it did.

I think having Stuart repair the jacket is your best bet. He has adjusted a couple of my LW jackets over the years and the craftsmen did a great job. All things considered I don't think the cost is that bad considering the time to remove the panel and replace it will be considerable.

I would ask him to include the removed panel when he returns the jacket as it should insure that no VAT charges can be applied. And you might be able to have a local craftsman make a decent wallet out of it for your girlfriend or some other nice item.

I wouldn't give it to the cat as it might reinforce her fever for scratching Moose.

I am way to OCD to put up with cat scratch.... now if both sides were cat scratched with the same pattern???? Nope, couldn't do it. That would have to be replaced. I would drop $500.00 in a New York minute. The craftsmanship of the Ryder plus the Moose hyde...... I just could not live with it.

Not that I would have the money but hell I could find something to sell on ebay and then..... it would go to Stuart period.

I am currently having success using Tandy Leather Eco-Flo Leather Weld to repair some scrapes on a jacket. I use a 000 paintbrush and then tweezers to lay the flap-piece down on top. The jacket I’m doing is black, so I’m not sure if it will darken on your grey.

Though it wouldn't even get fixed as nothing about it broken, it's just superficially scratched which is literally what is supposed to happen - And eventually will happen - to any leather jacket. It's the purpose of the damn thing.

Considering Lost World pricing, Stu's $500 quote for a "repair" of this magnitude is reasonable because he quite literally would have to re-create 1/4 of the jacket which makes simply considering the option even stranger as at that price range, the only sensible thing to do is to save up some more and get another leather jacket. I mean, a new leather jacket > satisfied quirk.

@Carlos840, just rub wax or whatever onto this. It'll disappear eventually, once the grain pops up enough to fully cover up the nicks. It looks bad right now but it's not, especially not $700+ bad.

Yep, it's flaky bits that make the whole thing appear worse than it actually is and that's just coating anyway, which is replaceable. You can shave it off and just cover it with a bit of shoe polish or wax & then work the panel out to make the grain more prominent. I agree that the scratches will fade in with the character Lost Worlds jackets are known for. My jacket was changing on a daily basis, even though I got it used.

It'll be good.

Let's see the culprit, though.
