I’ve seen them in old time pool halls & card parlors. When I was a kid there was a turtle spittoon in the barbershop but I never saw anyone use it.

One of my earliest memories is of my grandfather grabbing me to stop me from a close inspection of the first spittoon I had ever seen.
It was in a hotel in downtown Chicago, probably in the late 1930’s.
No clue which hotel, when, or why we were there. As I said, I was pretty little, but obviously old enough to remember, so I had to be at least three.

Thanks but in some lighting in photographs it looks dusty but I think it’s losing the black coloring & turning gray. On the underside of the brim is a worn spot from where my thumb used to go when I removed it. I don’t do that anymore.
