Fellow Loungers, let me introduce you to Mollie, the newest addition to the household.

We found Mollie a few weeks ago in the neighborhood, and set about finding her owners or a home. Unchipped and untagged, posting on various shelter and lost pet websites, we had no luck, and all the shelters are full.

So she's ours now, and we're working through the challenge of integrating her with our other dog, Jenna.

Welcome Mollie. Sometimes they just choose us, Jim.

Well, it's my turn to join the it's-really-hard-to-lose-a-faithful-companion club. For fourteen years our beagle Ellie Mae shared our home and hearts. She loved to hunt, either with me or on her own, and energetically guarded our homeplace from rabbits, squirrels, and other various varmints. She helped our kids grow into responsible adults, lived to meet our three grandkids, and loved to go camping and walking with us. She was a spoiled but loveable part of our family, and we will miss her company.

I don't normally post such things, but obviously there's lots of folks here who I know will understand that I think she deserves a small tribute, at the very least.
So painful when you say the last farewell to a loving, loyal faithful friend. We said farewell to our Birman cat, Khandi, earlier in the year. One of the surprise presents that Santa brought my wife, Tina, is a cherished memory of our beloved Khandi. It caused a tear, but through the tears, a smile of all the years she was with us. This is what Santa had in his sack for Tina:

It will take pride of place on the wall of Tina's sewing cabin. Khandi loved to join Tina there, nothing to do with the radiator of course!

They are unusual for cats, in that they each are very interested in what we do and will greet us at the door when we come home as well as "see us off" when we leave. They follow us around and "help" around the house. As with most animal companions, they certainly help lower our blood pressure and give us something else to think about at the end of a crappy day!;)

This is Piper:

She was the product of a "for profit" breeder, but was de-valued because she's Siamese but doesn't have the typical markings. As a result she was somewhat ignored and abused a bit, and as a result of that my friend was able to adopt her free as a "rescue". Also as a result, Piper is not particularly friendly until you've earned her trust; took me about four or five days of patience and behaving relaxed and calm around her. Once she felt comfortable with me, she heard my voice and ran across the house to lay on my lap. My friend said Piper had never done that with anyone but her, so I took it as acceptance. Now, after more than a few months, Piper shows all the signs of comfort and affection around me, so I do what I can to maintain that.
