No idea. I'm not the original owner. This leather darkens whenever it is in contact with water though, so if you wanted to even it out you could give it a dip.

Does it work like that? In my experience with sheepskin it doesn’t stain evenly despite equal saturation

It's not going to get rid of all contrast, but it would even it out. A leather cream might even things out more. I personally wouldn't do it, because I think it looks great as is.
