They are selling direct to consumer. Not distributed to any retail outlets. So you can't go to a store to try them on, or handle them in person. Their marketing schematic is to use online influencers.

I honesty don't think they were ever worn, there's not a scratch on the sole's and as soon as I got them home, I gave them a good cleaning, and conditioning. They're pretty comfy and we will see how they hold up.

On my feet, they are okay. They are heavy, stiff, and were difficult to break in. I'm standing on a piece of leather attached to another piece of leather, attached to rubber. Because it's a stitchdown shoe, there's no cork cushion. The rubber is firm, as opposed to soft and bouncy soles. I wanted my feet to like these more.

You get a lot of value. No other shoe in this price range has a veg tan insole, and a veg tan midsole. A true toe cap. Another layer of leather for the backstay. Fully leather lined. The single piece vamp, and uppers, are chrome tanned then veg tanned.

Based on me being cheap, one of my wallet's favorite shoes.

Red Wing Moc Toe . I fully expect these to last the rest of my boot wearing days. No reason not to last . One of the best over the counter boots available. Not everyone likes the way it looks. Myself included. There are better looking shoes. I bought these for durability. These should be able to handle my dishwashing job.

The Astor. Modern Allen Edmonds. Only a few months old. Only worn casually. I've been to The Bar. Haven't had a bar fight......yet.

Uppers are thin leather of unknown origin. Long gone are the days when every pair of Allen Edmonds had Horween leather. Lined with buttery soft glove leather. A very thin, soft sock liner glued on top of poron, is on top of a synthetic lasting board. Rubber midsole and outsole.

All the "cheap" materials and construction makes for a light weight, comfortable shoe. I actually like the soft lug sole. Even though it's soft enough that it will wear out faster. Every step is soft and bouncy. It's still Goodyear welted. This model has a storm welt. It's advertised as a 'custom cork" insole; which must mean that there is still cork under the footbed.

Pricing is different for everyone. Some of us are more diligent about waiting for sales and looking for coupons. The "window sticker" is $495. Current price online is $160. At that price, it's better than a lot of other shoes. My personal opinion, which is not based on any scientific fact: modern Allen Edmonds are priced high, like a used car, so that they can sell it to you "on sale".

It happens. We fall into a trap. Trapped into thinking that you have to have the most expensive, overbuilt boots, with the highest priced materials. And you are doing yourself a favor by buying a heavy shoe that hurts your feet.
$500 to $1,000 is worth it, because you're getting something good.

Sometimes we forget that a shoe has to be functional. I don't want my feet to hurt. I'm not a girl, trying to look ***y in heels. I just need to be comfortable. I want every step to be soft and bouncy. To that end, the basic uniform shoe does the job. 12 hour shifts. Overtime. Ready to stand post on guard duty. Ready to chase down someone with wants and warrants. Ready for slippery linoleum floors when someone spills coffee in the donut shop.

These shoes live in the bottom of my locker. Waiting for the day when I will wear a uniform. If King Charles comes to town, and they need me to deliver Orange Chicken to his suite, I am ready.
