I recently ordered the Duke with an open crown and thought I would give it a slanted pinch. I chose Loden wIth Chocolate headband and trim, along with Burgundy and Bottle Green liner. I may redo the pinch it was something I had seen and thought I would try myself to see if I liked it or not.

A New Chapter in My Sartorial Journey: Venturing Into the World of Hats

Dear forum members,

I’ll be turning 50 next month, and over the past year I’ve gradually stepped into the sartorial world with growing passion. These days you’ll usually find me in a proper suit, tie, pocket square, beautiful oxfords, and a cashmere overcoat — the whole works. But despite all that effort, one essential piece has always been missing: a proper headpiece.

For months I’ve been searching for a classic addition to complete my outfits. I initially gravitated toward beanies and flat caps… but let’s just say the mirror made it very clear that neither was doing me any favours. So I finally decided to take the plunge: I’m entering the realm of real hats.

And what a realm it is! The more I learn, the more fascinated I become — all the traditions, etiquette, craftsmanship, and subtle art of actually wearing a hat. I want to discover this world in all its depth and delight.

So, I’ve ordered my very first proper hat: the Agnoulita Regent, in a deep chocolate brown, with a custom ribbon, old rose lining, and a tobacco-coloured sweatband. The moment I stepped into the Agnoulita universe, I was warmly welcomed by Anna, who has taken personal charge of my hat’s production. I must say, when the craftsperson themselves greets you like an old friend, you know you’re in good hands.
And since the hat bug has bitten me rather fiercely, I ordered it with priority — with a bit of luck, it’ll arrive sometime next week!

Even though I’m used to wearing suits both for work and in my free time, I know it will take some getting used to wearing a hat confidently. Any advice to help me through those first impressions and honeymoon weeks with my new Regent is more than welcome.

If this Agnoulita turns out as wonderful as I hope… well, let’s just say this might be the beginning of a very expensive new hobby.
Once the hat arrives, I’ll gladly post some photos!

Thanks in advance to everyone who welcomes me.

Greetings from Belgium,
John

As the saying goes, wear the hat, don't let the hat wear you.

Honestly, you may get a few gentle jibs and jabs from friends, but most people won't really notice. But, always expect a complement when you go out because there is a subset of the population who really appreciate seeing a proper hat. I was very apprehensive about wearing a bowler hat but, honest to God, I get multiple compliments ever time I hit the streets in a bowler :)

Enjoy. Looking forward to seeing your new hat.

I took the plunge: my very first order from Agnoulita! And I can already say… it turned into quite an experience.

Last Sunday (30/11/25) I ordered a hat from Agnoulita, and what a journey it was! I had heard about the typical “Agnoulita treatment”: very few replies to your wishes, yet they do exactly what you’ve asked for. Better that way than the other way around, right? :)

I went for the Regent in chocolate brown beaver felt, the darkest brown they currently offer in beaver. I paid extra for the faster service, and believe it or not: it already arrived yesterday (09/12/25). The inside is beautifully finished with an old rose lining and a tobacco sweatband – subtle, elegant, and with just the right amount of character.

I normally wear 56.5 cm and measured my head myself for the very first time. The measurement Agnoulita uses is spot on: an absolutely perfect fit. That was a huge relief, because I really wanted this hat to sit right from the start. It will take some getting used to, making a hat like this truly my own.

I’m aware that wearing a hat tends to attract some extra looks – and some people might even comment on it. Totally fine by me; it’s part of the fun of wearing one. The choice for dark brown was deliberate too: it pairs perfectly with my greige overcoat and my dark blue down jacket.

All in all: my first Agnoulita is a real success. If it lasts as long as I hope, this might just be the beginning of a beautiful hat journey. Thanks for reading, and I’d love to hear about your own experiences with Agnoulita!

Love it, especially the bow. It looks like it's set up asymmetrically with a pleat or two more towards the back. If so was that as part of custom request. I have a hat that was made by him a few years back and I had him place an extra pleat to the front of the hat. I hope you get many compliments as I have when wearing one of his hats out and about.
