Anyone wear a leather jacket above belt buckle?

I know the commonly regarded best length for a jacket is covering the belt buckle either 1/2 way or just under it.

My problem is I sometimes want to wear my big Samurai Jeans belt - it changes my waist size from 32 to 36!!

My best fitting jacket cannot zip over this belt.

I tried jackets with side adjusters and they look equally bad flaring out where the jacket covers the belt buckle.

So I wonder - what if I wear a jacket that’s a tad short and finish just above the belt buckle?

Does that kind of look look cool, or just wrong?

I vaguely recall seeing at one guy posting a pic of such a fit, and it looked OK to me back then. I can’t remember who it was but it was a cross zip like LW Trojan with a short design.

Such high-waisted jackets seem to be intended for high rise pants, which puts the belt line right back where it's supposed to be relative to the jacket's hemline.

It's not really what I'm used to, but two of my jackets have been on the short side like this: my Aero King of the Road, which I bought from Japan, and may have been short on me because it was sized for the original owner who may have been shorter than me, and a Lee Trevor Lee Storm Rider 101 trucker that I still have but rarely reach for. I think this one is just cut more true to the original length that the earlier trucker jackets were designed for. They got longer in the 80s, and I think both looks work, but each length does indicate the period they were were made in.

IMO it’s fine to wear leather jacket (one without belt) above the belt of the pants, but showing two belts is not a good look.

Tom lays out exactly how it should work if you're going to do it. Even though the jacket is sitting above the belt line (and this serves a functional purpose of allowing more movement) it needs to be a high-waisted pair of pants. The belt on belt works, but belt then shirt then jacket does not!

Jeans are “Gritty Jackson” from Nudie. They’re described as mid-rise.

Picture was taken when the jacket was new and I was experimenting with the look.
The jacket does cover the belt (at least partly), but the chunky buckle pushes it higher. It’s not a look I am comfortable with on a daly basis, but with a more standard buckle it works just fine.

FYI: this jacket wears more or less like my Vanson/MrFrown C2, lengthwise.

To my eye the double vision belt is not a good look at all. Be better off putting a set over overall’s under a super short jacket. I don’t mind the way Tom is wearing it though. It’s much more subtle. I see this look on a lot of Japanese IG accounts. Looks like a leather halter top. It’s comical and I say that full well knowing I wear some comical stuff too. But there’s something extra special about two belts. In a bad way.

I tend to agree. Not a look I am after on a daily basis. As I said, the buckle pushes the jacket up, and I am good over a slimmer belt. Still a short jacket (as is my C2), but not in a “statement“ kind of way.

You may be interested in this video, posted by a member here (I believe). He explains and shows that the double belt look is fine when buckled up, because when opened, the jacket flares out to appear normal.
