Some of my posts have been deleted for "bumping" but so many posts I see bump their products as well and they are not getting taken down. Can someone please explain this to me?

If not reported, we may not see them. If we don't see them, they don't get taken down.

I tink that answered your initial question.
So the reason my stuff is getting taken down is because someone is snitching on me?

Can we, um... change this rule?

There was literally a discussion here about bumping a while back, and everybody agreed that people should only bump once a week. Without bumping, the classified section is going to get very slow. I know a few older sites with a no bumping policy. It's difficult to use, you never know what's still available, and because of this, they are generally ghost towns. No users, no revenue generated.

I just bumped some of my stuff because I've been traveling, so it was all last bumped a month ago. I don't think that hurts anybody.

Lastly, I think the mods should consider this... Respectful once-a-week bumps have worked for years and years on these forums. As you say yourself, you don't enforce the rule unless somebody reports it. And for years and years, everybody has respected reasonable bumps, nobody has reported anything. Until now. Which means we're dealing with a new member reporting things, involving mods where mods have never been needed, and generally screwing up the classifieds section.

I think the best thing to do is simply change the rule. Ban excessive bumping, sure. I even think most of the longer-term members have a problem with that, so reporting violations will be no problem. But no bumping at all? The classifieds section has never worked that way in practice. Why change now?

Okay, I found the rule...

But this is apparently regarding "topics", ie discussion topics in the general forums. I think the purpose of this rule is to keep the same question from being asked over and over across several forums, so that there aren't multiple discussion threads when one would suffice. The language does not appear intended to ban reasonable respectful bumping in the classified section.

"7. No Bumping or Cross-posting topics. Bumping is posting to move a thread up on the forum list, and cross-posting is posting the same thread in several forums."

I have read the rules but I didn’t understand how rule 7 applied to my bump post…

I bumped after waiting 1 month-1 year. The bump post got deleted. I gave up.

So how do we get this rule changed?

Hmm! So, the person who made 20 very short, pointless posts in the space of about 15 minutes in an effort to circumvent the ‘20 Posts in Open Forums’ selling rule is now wanting to get one of the other rules on selling changed ?

And he is not the only one. Yesterday there was a new member here posting 20 posts like 'very cool' and 'tax is theft' in 15 minutes or so only to get the minimum number of posts and then offload his items for sale.
The thing with the classifieds with both this kind of new members with zero respect for the forum but also with older members who bump their 15 adds every 3 days is getting tiring.
I think the best solution is to split the forum in two: the normal, traditional FL (which will remain free of charge) and the classifieds area for which potential users should pay a small fee, maybe 30$ per year or so.

If he had posted in one of my sections, and I noticed it, I would have deleted his posts. Best to report that type of activity, and we will deal with it.

Send me a PM with the user name, and I will look into it.
