Had my classifieds post deleted although I have been a member since June 2023 and have 20 posts?
Do I need to start over again for some reason?
Thanks.

I was banned for a week for bumping my classifieds posts and now its telling me i dont have enough posts to list in classifieds, when i've been doing it for years as well. What the hell is going on?

I guess only a moderator can offer an explanation but if I had to guess I would say that it has to do with the new requirement of 20 posts in the forum; by a fast look at your post count you both might have above 20 posts in total but the huge majority, if not all, of your posts are your classifieds, thus close to zero participation and contribution to the forum.
Again: this is my own speculation and a moderator should clarify why your adds are deleted.

OK, so I often look and read many posts and many threads on this entire forum. I find it very helpful, interesting and entertaining. Do I post on the threads I read? No. Why you may (or may not) ask. Well, because I have nothing to say. I might post of course but only if I actually have something to say. I don’t see the point otherwise and it’s very clear that forum members do not much appreciate “Cool” or “Nice” as posts ☺️
So, it is confusing for me to find that when I have something to say and sell in the classifieds that is exactly the sort of thing forum members here are into, it just gets deleted with the explanation as to why being factually incorrect (I do gave the amount of posts and I am not a new member).
If, the forum moderator who deleted my post does not want me to post here then so be it but at least explain in an easy to understand manner please. That’s just being courteous and I would appreciate it so I know the ‘lay of the land’.
Thanks

True, this is the 'smart' way to get the required postcount, totally silly.

No, this is exactly NOT what this forum is about. It is not a marketplace.

If, the forum moderator who deleted my post does not want me to post here
I don't think there is anyone who does not want you to post here. What both the moderators and some of the older members, myself included, do want to avoid is members coming here only to sell. And professional sellers.

I understand of course it is not a marketplace I was simply referring to the item I wanted to sell not to the forum as a whole.

I explained in the reply what I come here for however I understand that one may construe this as ‘coming here to sell’. One would however be wrong in this case but there.

I would just like a moderator to explain to me what I can and can’t (now) do so I know.
That’s all.
☺️

Thank you for the explanations, @Harris HTM. Well articulated.

If I see a new member making posts, in one of my sections, that are obviously meant to increase his post count, I delete them.

The 20 Post Count Rule was instituted in response to an ongoing problem. Since its inception, we haven't had that problem. We have had numerous complaints about the rule from professional sellers, but we haven't had any instances of fraud the rule was designed to protect against.

So, it's a trade off, a balancing of the equities situation. A few get balanced out for the good of the whole.

Read and understand the rules. Then you will know what is going on.

If I remember correctly, you were temporarily banned for ignoring directives to not Bump.

OK, then I have misunderstood what ‘new’ means I assume?

OK, I believed I was not ‘new’ and I was certainly not posting the item for sale to increase list count? Still confused (seriously I am not being awkward on purpose I just don’t understand).

Do I need to post another 20 posts in other areas of the forum in order to try and sell the item?

Here is the Title of the Rule as posted: "New Members: 20 Posts in the Open Forums are Required Before Selling here."

I understand your confusion. Having been around for awhile, you didn't consider yourself a "new" member. But, for the purposes of the rule, you are considered a new member.

So, yes, you will need 20 posts in other areas of the Lounge before you can list your items for sale. And that should be 20 meaningful posts–not just posts to be posting to get your count.

Thank you for the clarification.
I do not believe I have twenty ‘meaningful’ posts to make! As I stated I read the forum and collect information. So, I will sell the item elsewhere.

I was in your situation not that long ago, and wrote about the the “bootstrap” issue that new members face. I never thought I would ever had 20 meaningful posts. Now my post count is 130+ but of course whether or not they’re meaningful or just pointless drivel is in the eye of the beholder.

I found that as I read more, I had more questions that could not be answered with a simple search. So I started posting not to contribute but to ask. And friendly answers came surprisingly quick. In the end, TFL is more a community of knowledge and experience than a forum of posts and classifieds. For us newbies, it’s great to learn by reading but the more you read, the more you’ll want to learn by asking.

So much CL drama lately. Not directed exclusively at the OP but imho people shouldn’t be getting salty about anything TFL related. This is a free member operated site. It is a privilege, not a right and the exit door is always open

Thank you!

This is now the fourth thread dedicated to the "huge problem" of being ask to contribute to the forum. All of them with members I havn´t read a word from before enthusiastically complaining about TFL being more than a marketplace.

The irony of that would be funny if there wasn´t a real issue about the Classfieds getting spammed by "non-actoive" members lately.

@Tom71 you are an active member in Outerwear and probably read almost as many of the posts as I do. I can't read them all, so if you see a member making posts for the obvious purpose of increasing his post count, please use the Report button so Edward or I can take a look at it.

most of the threads have been about the sudden enforcement of bumping, haven't seen many objections to the 20 post thing.

I'm very new to the forum. I don't have the requisite posts to sell, but I have bought a few items from the classifieds. The 20 'meaningful' post rule is a good one to have. It shows that the person selling is involved in the forum and is going to show respect to the buyer and vice versa for the seller. It also shows that a user isn't just reselling, as mentioned in other comments, and is part of the community and actually cares about the people and garments discussed here.

As a skeptical buyer, I do look through the sellers posts, do reverse image searches, etc. Personally if I had seen posts without real engagement I'm not sure that I would be confident buying on this platform. Which I believe is the reason for these rules and deleted posts.

It is pro and con to have human moderators decide what is meaningful and or if a user has been vetted enough to sell on the platform. But ultimately I believe it to be a good thing.

My favorite was from a snowflake who stated they had a "few" items to sell. They then racked up their post count with one word posts and responding to a thread where someone was looking for an item with "I don't have one."

Not surprisingly, their "few" items have chewed up a bunch of the classifieds with regular bumps.

Who'da thunk?
