Ripped Leather in new(ish) Aero Vincent

So, I received my Aero Vincent in May and managed to get in maybe 3 or 4 full regular days of wear so far.
Today I noticed a really big & gnarly rip in the leather close to the right collar that does not look like it could have happened from a few hours of wear, especially as this isn't an area where a lot of stress is put on the leather (I think).
I already contacted Aero directly, as well as the Shop I ordered the Jacket through, but I'm not sure what can be done here. It doesn't look like a ripped seam but completely torn leather. On FQHH CXL no less.

No idea what the solution or outcome will be in the end, so I guess I just wanted write this down somewhere to get some frustration out of my system.

Wow that's bad. Is it actually a part of leather missing? Could you add a zoomed out photo so it is more clear where exactly this is? Obviously this cannot happen not only after 4 wears but after 4000 wears

Actually yes, now that you mention it (and I'm more or less over the first shock), it really looks like a whole piece of maybe 1x1cm is missing/was ripped out

It might have been like that from the start, the spot is kinda nestled away under the zipper-fold. I was (gently) massaging the collar area today to get some of the stiffness out so I noticed it.

Unless an angry wife, a devious cat or a jealous neighbour (or if you have a split personality ;) ) decided to take their anger on you then I guess this was there from the very beginning.
I have faith in Aero's client service though, let's see what they will say.

If I had a cat that could easily bite out a chunk from this kind of leather, I'd probably have completely different problems :D

I even wrote Aero _today_ about possible customizations on another Vincent in the future, as I like the cut so much. What a timing.

Never underestimate the power of a cat's jaws!
Good luck and keep us posted!

The edges are too straight to be a tear and it looks to be like more a cut. Either way, given the size of the cut/tear and that you’ve had the jacket for nearly 6 months I’m surprised this hasn’t been noticed before now and also that it passed final inspection at Aero Leather prior to despatch.
Is it possible the damage somehow may have been caused without you being aware ?
And back on 24th May you posted ‘Been wearing the Aero Vincent almost every day since getting it, really happy with it’ and you’ve also posted photos of it being worn a couple of times in October, so has it really had just 3-4 days wear after you received it on 9th May ?

It seem I’m being accusatory but these are the sort of things which might be questioned by a retailer if an issue is raised

Yeah, I took it home from the retailer on May 9th, "wore" it a few times as it was already too warm for that kind of jacket outside of a quick run to the supermarket or sth. and then stored it until October when i wore it once for a quick photo and 2 times "for real". So yeah, the 4 days is not correct and I most likely remembered the days I took pictures with it.
I wrote the post in a bit of an emotional state, better wording would have been "a few days of normal wear". You are correct in pointing this out and thank you, don't need unforced contradictions with something that isn't really that important for the issue anyway.

I honestly have no idea how this kind of damage could have happened without me noticing. I neither wear any kind of bags that have sharp edges and can't remember having any sort of accident.
As for why I didn't see it before, the spot is nestled in quite a bit when not actively looking for it and usually covered by the collar.
The cut perfectly aligns with the edge of the zip-track, so you have to actively pull it out from underneath.

I'm not a popped-collar kind of person so I just never really checked under the furthest fold of the zip track.

Edit: I wrote the wrong date.

As has previously been said Aero Leather do have a good Customer Service team, so it’d be good to know the outcome and if the issue is resolved.

You made me realize that this whole thing can be seen as a bit sketchy on my part, so I that's giving me additional anxiety now.

Thanks for pointing it out tho.

As an additional point towards this possibly having been there from the beginning: the cut (or whatever) actually goes through the folded/stitched part while the thread is fully intact. Hard to explain.
I really have no idea how this could have happened after finishing the jacket

Me neither. this is quite odd.

I would work directly with the Stockist you purchased the jacket from even before going to Aero. What Stockist did you use (since you do not include your location?)

Yeah, I wrote the retailer, too. Purchased through Gasoline Alley in Munich.

Maybe I’m the only one not overreacting, and let me be the voice of reason here, but it’s in a very hidden spot and for the OP owning the jacket for 6 months didn’t notice it until now, no one is going to notice it. If Aero doesn’t resolve it, nbd. It may affect resale value a bit, but in terms of wearability and look, it’s nada.

It looks like a fault occurred during the cutting process. The cut looks too sharp and too clean to be a tear. Aero prob hid it pretty well as a secondary-reject product. Did you buy it on a discount? If not, I still hope Aero would be able to resolve it for you.

I agree only in so far that if absolutely nothing can be done or offered from Aero's side , the jacket is still generally wearable as the hole is quite well hidden when the collar is down.
BUT, it is still simply an open hole, nothing less, and still in an exposed place where water will get inside should it rain more than just a slight drizzle.

I also had the jacket for 6 months, true, but maybe 3 weeks since then were really cold enough to wear it in earnest. Maybe the leather slowly breaking in and becoming more pliable also helped with this becoming more noticeable now.

And no, no discount, new MTO for full price. With all the customized bells and whistles, import and shipping around 1,8k €.

Agreed, this isn't something you did, this was done during manufacturing and Aero just hoped the buyer wouldn't notice.... Thats disappointing from them.

Wow too bad. I’ve become turned off to aero. Too many reports of zipper issues, poor QC, wild stitching irregularities, ripped liner and now this…

Assuming this issue did occur during the manufacturing process suggesting that Aero Leather were aware of it but still despatched the jacket out to a retailer or customer is a pretty strong accusation to make.
