I used buyee this morning for a leather jacket and there was no additional price yike.
If you're in the US the shipping carrier will collect the tariff. Do you think we were all lying about all this, LOL?

I will, I'm curious myself.
Here's how you get notified, or how I got informed.

What did you buy anyways?

DHL was forcing me to pay tariff fees before delivering packages from Japan, threatening to return them if I didn't pay. However, the last 2 packages I received from them they didn't do this and just delivered them, and then sent me a bill in the mail, which I promptly chucked into the trash. I'm guessing their previous method of holding the packages hostage wasn't working out so well for them, creating a cluster F with too many ignored payment attempts and returned packages?

So you do expect DHL to pay the tariffs on your behalf for free?

This is a great point too. In the US you can deduct mortgage interest but this typically is only used by high income households who itemize their taxes.
Something similar happens here in NL; you can deduct a part of your mortgage interest, only for the house you live in. However this is much different than refusing to pay a tariff, vat or import duty to your government on an item you import

Same thing happened to me on one of my recent orders. $7 tariff and $35 administrative fee from DHL, billed a month after receipt. I will eventually pay it because I get nervous about those sort of things hanging over me (as much as I agree that it’s an illegal tax), but I’m curious to see what DHL do.

Wow, and I was complaining about the 17.5e we have here

Well, if half the people are simply refusing to pay the fees, I guess it makes sense that the fee is twice of what it is here.

Seriously, ANY courier who handles import admin will charge a fee. I did the handling it twice myself and have zero appetite to repeat the experience. I will gladly pay and tip anybody willing to take this ludicrous bureaucratic burden off my shoulders.

My understanding (and I hope that I’m wrong), is that even if SCOTUS rules against the tariffs the consumers (us) will not get refunded
What experts etc are saying is that if there are refunds it would be to the companies that paid the tariffs, not to the consumers who paid the tariffs by way of higher prices after the company passed their tariff fees onto the consumer. trump has made comments about a $2000 check being sent to every American, but who knows right. he says a lot of stuff. He also said there would be no more tax on social security or tips

I'm speculating that the reason it's taking SCOTUS this long to rule is because they're trying to figure out how they can twist the laws and constitution into knots by ruling against the tariffs while also ruling that there doesn't need to be refunds. But that's just me speculating

I went back and tried to look back up the Japan tariffs and now I’m not able to find the source before that said it was reduced to 4.5% and now everything says around 15%. Which ***** I just purchased a jacket on buyee from Japan and I’m wondering when I’ll get the bill for the tariff portion.

So I bought my first jacket on buyee and can confirm as of 2/17/26 the tarif rate on leather jackets is 15%. I found an essentially new Real McCoy Buco Jh 1 in my size and couldn’t pass it up. It was a great deal comparatively but the tariff cost was an extra 250$ basically on top of 97$ shipping making it not so great of a deal after everything. I got a bunch of coupons after buying this and I’m wondering can I apply the coupon to the price of the item, the total including tariff and shipping or just tariff cost? How do I apply the coupon and at which stage?

To put things in perspective, here's a breakdown of what Europeans have to pay when importing goods, since as long as I can remember.

Jacket $380
VAT+import $116.72

That's 31% added taxes.

Depending on the value of the item, the shipping costs and the handling fees I've paid up to 35% in taxes.

I'd be happy if I only had to pay 15% lol.

@Boulderunner the JH1 is a very cool jacket and something I've long wanted as well, hope you enjoy it.

If you've already paid for the jacket or won the auction then as far as I understand the new coupons can't be applied. If Buyee sent you coupons then you have to claim them, at which point you have a designated amount of time to make your purchases.

These days Buyee will label the items that coupons can apply to. When you make a bid, or "Win now for the Buyout price" there will be a dropdown menu asking you what coupon you want to use. Once you select it, the total will automatically be adjusted and you'll see the savings.

Something to keep in mind, Buyee will send coupons randomly for JDirectItems Auction, Mercari, JDirectItems Fleamarket, etc so you need to make sure you're looking in whatever category you have the coupon for.

Hope this helps, congratulations again on the JH1, post photos when you get it. Enjoy.

Yes, for us in the NL it has always been 21% vat and 4% import duty (for jackets) of the total amount (product + shipping).
