Advice Needed: Second Leather Jacket to Complement My Buco J‑24 (Cleaner Style)

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some advice from the community regarding a second leather jacket to complement my current one.

I own a Real McCoy’s Buco J‑24 BJ19003 (old fit, full set) with the fur collar and belt. I absolutely love it — the weight, the density of the Shinki, the character, the whole package. But as many of you know, the J‑24 is a very “busy” jacket: epaulettes, belt, D‑pocket, lots of hardware. It’s a fantastic piece, but not always the easiest to wear in every situation.

So I’m now looking for a second jacket in a similar spirit, but with a cleaner, more understated design — something with the same quality and presence, but less loaded with details.

At the moment, I’m hesitating between two specific models:

1. Fine Creek Leather – Leon “Nostar” (factory clean version)
Reference: FCL OSJK001 (export code) / FCJK015 (Japan code)
This is the official factory‑clean version without epaulettes and without the belt, not the modified-after-the-fact version. The one I’m considering is the 1.3 mm Shinki horsehide version sold by Rivet & Hide.

2. Double Helix – Deviant Sunset
Reference: RC0811
A beautifully executed 1940s‑style sports jacket with a simpler front, great lines, and a more vintage‑inspired silhouette.

My goal is to find something that complements the Buco rather than overlaps with it — something easier to wear day‑to‑day, but still with top‑tier leather and construction.

If anyone here owns either of these jackets (or both), I’d love to hear your thoughts on:

• fit and comfort
• leather density and break‑in
• long‑term durability
• how “clean” they look in real life
• how they compare to a Buco / Freewheelers / RCL in terms of presence and versatility

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the ideas, those are really nice jackets. I'll keep those alternatives in mind, but I'm looking for something a bit more biker-style, a bit more aggressive (while still being clean). Another example not mentioned: the Ponyboy RC10075 (brown), but their new 2025/2026 version with a 1.2mm tannery unspecified is a bit off-putting

Or go custom and spec an Aero (maybe a Ridley) the way you want. Like this:

I've read a lot of pros and cons about Fine Creek. The one I shared is currently on sale at Rivet&Hide for £995 instead of £1550, which is why I chose it, and also because I find its style super sharp. What are your opinions on the brand? (And DH too, while we're at it)

Which brands would you recommend? From what I've read, the top ones would be: Freewheelers (but super rare) > RCL >= RMC = The Flat Head > Himel = Fine Creek >= DH = Aero Leather > Y'2

This list is highly subjective, mine would be very different but neither is wrong, it just depends how much you value certain characteristics in a leather jacket and to what extend said characteristics are represented in said makers. I, for one, dont care for leathers that are finished to age rapidly and quickly give a worn in vintage look. Top coat breaking down and my black leather jacket being mud-colored three weeks into break-in? No thanks. Other love that tea-core effect. It is all subjective and that goes for so many options in leather jackets, think leather thickness, authenticity, repro vs NOS zippers, styles, patterns.

Stay away from The fine creek Leon nostar imo the pattern is terrible and the leather is pretty bad unless you get it in Shinki.

My vote is for a Real McCoy JH-1. It’s exactly what you say, a toned down biker jacket. It’s almost a regular single rider jacket with a small double collar. I just finally got one in my size and it’s a lot thicker more malleable leather than the j24 leather and just overall a really clean nice jacket

Fine creek Eric is another moto style (assuming that’s your general aesthetic) but much more wearable in a variety of settings as a single rider/delivery jacket style.

If you're all about a stealth cross zip there may be another option. I saw one about six months ago that was completely blacked out... black leather / black zips. I think the model may have been called "Raven" and it was by Vanson or Schott IIRC. An exceptionally sharp and understated yet unquestionably masculine jacket by any standard.
