Up for sale is a 1940s leather jacket with a unique civilian A-2 / half belt hybrid construction. Not a typical pattern—has a lot of small details you don’t see often. Price is $400 shipped in the continental U.S. via Zelle or PayPal Friends & Family.

The jacket features thick 1940s-era leather, likely ponyhide, with strong natural patina throughout. As shown in photos, the leather remains healthy for its age. Also has that great early 40s leather scent.

Notable details include dual front pockets, epaulettes, large original urea buttons, engraved side cinch buckles, storm cuffs, and a nicely shaped back. One button appears to be missing from each cuff but doesn’t affect overall look or wear.

Based on construction and overall build, likely produced by a midwestern maker, often attributed to “Alaskan”-type labels.

The original Talon main zipper is stamped “HO” (August 1940). Zipper functions properly, though the tape shows some fraying as pictured and may need attention down the line.

The patterned rayon lining shows wear consistent with age but remains intact overall. There is at least one hole in the right sleeve lining. Minor loose stitching at the right shoulder does not affect wearability. Some pocket stitching has come undone, shown in photos.

General wear throughout, but overall a solid and wearable example for its age.

Measurements (approximate, shown in photos):

Armpit to armpit: 21.25"

Shoulder to shoulder: 19”

Back length from bottom of collar: 23.5"

Front length: 25.25"

Sleeve length taken straight from shoulder seam: 24.25"

Please review measurements carefully, as vintage sizing differs from modern. Please allow a small degree of discrepancy due to human error.

As with any vintage item, expect signs of age. Please review photos and feel free to reach out with any questions.

Shipped promptly after payment.

This is probably the closest thing to a period Indiana Jones jacket as I've ever seen. If the back wasn't a half-belt, I'd assume that this is where the movie got the jacket from.

Someone else brought up this picture. It looks like it probably was the inspiration for the Indiana Jones jacket. This is sold.

Picture is General Lucian King Truscott Jr. Fought with Patton and rose up through ranks quickly. What is a unusual on AHP91's jacket is the epaulets. So this Jacket is cross of the 1930s 1/2 belt style with A-2 inspired pockets and epaulets. Similar to other private purchases for WW2 officer types. Add bullion patches etc. and wow - nice field wear. Wish I knew the maker but looks like the tag lining was repaired/replaced. I actually like this jacket better than Truscott's because his did not have the cinch straps. So if I were Truscott I would have bought this one instead.... Oh I just did : ) Going to give it a hard look over and give all an update. I do have some tan thread from a WW2 sew kit that I may stitch up the loose parts.... But I hate to mess with them to much. Great jacket AHP91 - Tank You! Will take excellent care of this great peice of USA fashion history. We are all just borrowers and stewards of history - not owners.

Based on the buckles, the length of the halfbelt and the type of lining I think it could be Minnesota Woolen, not 100% sure though.
