Since the 'ethics' angle seems to have been dragged in anyway, I should note from over here on the bunny-hugging side of the fence that the stricter elements of PETA and the Vegetarian Society aren't keen on wool anyway because most animals farmed for wool are treated pretty badly. You just...
Knudsen do actually have rather a lot of pretty fun styles in wool, now I look at their page. They have a wool Homburg which is rather more expensive than the Bailey one; maybe that'd be better quality. Thanks for that reference too!
Guess I have a lot of spending, I'm sorry, research to do...
Since I promised pictures - here's the homburg:
And here's the wool felt fedora, for comparison:
Sorry for the poor pictures, bit tricky taking pictures of yourself in a mirror with an SLR...
Since the Pachacuti hats are on sale at the moment I've decided to pull the trigger on a couple for use when I'm in the UK (I go back to visit family sometimes). So I'll have them delivered over there are try them out when I'm there next month. Can't hurt too much for 20-30 quid a pop. Only hat...
maybe I didn't do a great job of the description, but I wouldn't apply it to any other wool hat I have - the light brown one I mentioned, for instance. it's not really to do with the wooliness but more a feeling that they wanted to make a wool hat that 'appears' like a high-end felt one and...
hercule: right, that's what I meant. If you don't have a problem with fur but you *do* have a problem with the price, then sure, I guess a wool/fur blend is an option.
So the 'wool homburg' showed up, it turns out to be Bailey's 'Godfather' hat, which is on their website but not in their 2011 'collection'.
It's an interesting hat. It looks pretty good from the outside, I think. The felt feels a little odd to the touch - very fuzzy, not really like any other...
Like I said, I don't really see the need for there to be an argument. If you like fur then you like fur, there's room for everyone. :) I just was looking for wool information, since it's always trickier to come by.
gtdean48: a wool/fur blend kind of defeats the reason why some of us want a...
Thanks! You can certainly see the floppy brim effect there, but it doesn't look bad at all. I can't find anyone selling Churchill wool felts online at a quick search, though.
Thanks a lot! That Fedora Store customizable one looks very interesting, though it's pretty expensive to buy sight unseen. I'll have to see if there are any reviews around here. Big thanks for the pointers.
I know this is an old thread but I felt more comfortable re-animating one than posting a new one.
I've got a couple of fur fedoras but I've been looking harder for quality wool ones lately due to my personal take on the ethics of fur (everyone's got an opinion, mine's mine, yours is yours, I...
