Veg. hide darkens when it is untreated/unfinished. Like those wallets shown earlier. Veg. tanned hides made for jackets are finished and will age like you want them.

If the vendor of that is reliable and they say it's horsehide you should not doubt. It looks like horsehide from here but not of the best quality.

The color of the hide is seal brown and the thread is our medium brown

The vegetable tanned leather has no problem with water, provided that it is not HOT. All aniline finish leathers will absorb water, rain drops etc, but after they dry no problem. The above is not 100% correct. It is a general statement that applies to veg. tanned leather of the kind shown...

Caution: do not use hot water on vegetable tanned leathers.
