As a big-headed guy (7 1/2 - 7 5/8, depending on my haircut), I have trouble buying vintage anyway, so most of my hats are new. Do you think it would be worthwhile to post some vendors that we've had good experiences with, or has that ground been covered elsewhere on the forum?

I have to say I like Ladd's hat. I have nothing against a tapered crown, so long as it was designed with a taper and didn't just start to taper when it got wet. It wouldn't suit me, but I think it suits him fine.
I like Redford's hat in The Natural, too, but I could live without the wear and...

The hats are spectacular. The Sportaire especially just sings.
I've got a couple of ideas for your site. If you're interested, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you a couple of GIFs.
Oh my God, those hats...!
Best,
Tom
I've had a couple of new Borsalinos over the years, and they varied in quality a lot.
I bought a couple from Levine Hat in St. Louis between ten and twelve years ago, when they used to run around $90, a slight premium to the rest of their stock, but at that time, worth it. I still have one...
Thanks for the tip. I ended up buying a beautful Barbisio fedora -- black with a tall crown -- from Cheap Jack's last week. I don't think it had ever been worn before. Wonderful stuff.
Thanks,
Tom
Hey all -
Returning to the boards after a long abscence.
As I was uncrating my felts this weekend, and noticing how poorly some of my new hats have aged, I decided that it was probably time to take the advice of the members of this board and buy a vintage felt.
I'm looking on ebay...
Cripes, but that's a beautiful hat. Nice work, Art & Bob.
I have a Panama I bought a couple of years back in the closet in a hat box. I was going to get it out now that spring has arrived, but after looking at those pix, I'm afraid I'm just going to be disappointed when I crack it open. Ah well.
Hey all --
Sorry I haven't posted much lately. Work, family and, alas, taxes, have been eating up my time. Here's the text of the fedora brochure I've been working on, incorporating the feedback I've gotten from this site. Note that the "Vintage vs. Custom" section is gone. In retrospect, I...
I would also just like to point out that a "Christian" society has never been an ideal society. Elliot might have liked to think of the Nazis as pagan, but in fact German fascism explicity intertwined government, business and Christianity (or its perverted version of it).
That Elliot's view...
Well, actually, the reason for posting this text at this site is to collect feedback from hatters as well as from hat experts. So all comments are appreciated!
The reason for putting this brochure together is put assemble a simple factbook about fedoras for potential purchasers. So yes, I'm...
Thanks for the comments!
I don't want to come across as being against vintage hats. You're absolutely right that it's not just the best ones that have lasted, but the best cared for. And of course there are raggedy vintage hats out there. Still, people are unlikely to seek out, or pay a...

Most fedoras are either center-creased [illustration TK] or C-crowned [illustration TK]. Many are pinched at the front to form side dents. [Illustration TK]
The Bogie is an untapered medium-crowned, center-creased fedora with a welted 2 ½ brim. This hat...
