Vintage Millinery Singer Sewing Machines (Sweatbands, Binding, Ribbons, ETC)

Sooo..has anyone been able to figure out how to sew an unreeded sweatband? Is there a way to do it by hand? It doesn't look too complicated given some patience and ingenuity but it looks like the stitch goes in between the felt? I can't seem to see stitching under the headband.

Ask a question, get an answer

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I got in touch with Art and he doesn't currently stock something like the dark navy I posted but I'm still looking to get a hat after I research a bit more from all the suggestions posted, either from Art or who knows where it'll take me...

    Hmm, how about this color?

Ask a question, get an answer

Couple of questions, perhaps I can find an answer to cover all 3. Who makes good quality affordable ~$300 hats? With a color like this gray/blue Stetson? And has a tapered crown like Optimo's? I'm also considering Art's hats but he doesn't currently stock a gray/blue Off the Rack and his hats...

    Pocket Knife

@AbbaDatDeHat @jdbenson @belfastboy Thats a Perceval L10 and the blade is 95mm. You should be able to get in touch with them to get something made for you. I never understood why they would have knives without a liner lock (or why anyone would prefer to own one without) until reading about...

    Pocket Knife

Ambidextrous. Nail notches were never a selling point for me, especially on stiff or spring loaded blades. Same with the modern tactical style knives. I also don't see the need for a drop point blade, the sheepsfoot is easier to sharpen and more useful for day to day. Looks more gentlemanly too...

Dating and identifying a Vintage Stetson Cowboy hat

Thanks @Michael R.! I went and looked at it today and it is indeed a Resistol with a cowboy on a horse. Not sure the best place to advertise this but it's too small for me at size 7 but is in great condition if anyone is interested! It really is as clean as the pictures convey.

Dating and identifying a Vintage Stetson Cowboy hat

Does the cowboy, horse liner indicate a western weight or western hat? When did Stetson change to the logo of a cowboy on a bucking horse? I can't seem to find pictures of that to compare. I have my eye on a hat with a narrow ribbon, cattleman crease and bound edge. The logo is gold printed...

WTB: 7 1/8 felt or Panama hat, wide brim tapered crown

Looking for something that will wear for a while and not need any work. Preferably something 30s-50s with a wide brim with a nice subtle taper to the crown and a wide-ish ribbon. Ideally, it would be unreeded and moldable and not a cemented shape that needs steam to mold but not deal breakers...

    Panama Hat Thread

Thats a nice looking hat @Danbar99! Is that the Finga? May I ask how much the hat runs and how the ordering process was? I'm looking for a wide (3") brim center dent Panama but not really a fan of bleached toquilla. Would any loungers on this thread have suggestions? This Delmonico Agua is...

    Panama Hat Thread

. That's a lovely hat! Is that a different weave or type of straw? I'm not normally a fan of pugs but that's a good combination and you wear it well!

    Optimo south side mobsters

I poked around their website numerous times trying to find pricing but never was able to. Thanks! drmaxtejada: I wanted to get a ballpark figure to decide whether I should pick up a $100 job or just go all in for an Optimo. I'm really smitten by their Panamas though.

Ask a question, get an answer

Thank you! I may migrate my inquiries over to the Panama thread to get more eyes but did find a few reviews about the Pantropic being a little floppy in the brim. I'm now looking at the Jaxons since they seem to be blocked nicer and look equal in quality.

    Optimo south side mobsters

Anyone know the range their Panamas run? I could've sworn last time I checked one was $350 but seeing the felt hats in the $5-650 range is disheartening. I had hoped to visit Chicago to pick one out but that'll be out of my budget.
