    M-43 Style boots

This might not be much help since you're not in the U.S., but I recently bought a pair of At The Front's new run of boots and they are a vast improvement on anything I've worn previously. They're properly sized, comfortable, and solidly built of first grade materials. These boots will probably...

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Perhaps you need to spend some time reading up on Frederick Russell Burnham. He never went to Cuba, but he did have quite a life that spanned the Old West, Rhodesia, and Alaska. I'd love to see a movie made about that man's life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Russell_Burnham

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Going through this thread again and to update the legging status, Jerry at What Price Glory has been busy. He now has the M1897 and '98 models in stock in his eBay store: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331827302504?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT He also has a nifty looking...

Dad's WWII US Army Khaki visor service cap

Just working from memory, that should be the last (or first?) four digits of his service number preceded by the initial of his last name. Hat and caps were always marked on the inside of the sweatband. All issued clothing items got the same marking in a specific location.

I didn't intend to jump the gun, but I was intrigued and did a quick search.

    Campaign Bed

I've got a 1970s era jungle hammock that I bought 20 years ago that has -- if I recall correctly -- small black rubber discs mounted on the main lines intended for that purpose. I'm supposing they work fine if set correctly, that is, just inside the dry area created by your overhead cover, I...

    Bush Jackets

I bought one of these 5-6 years ago, and they are exactly what you say. They're made from an extremely durable cotton twill and have a loose fit. Plenty of room to wear a sweater underneath. Assuming they've made no changes to the design since then, mine has button side take up tabs and the back...

    Any Tips on safari outfit?

NO! BUY THE JACKET! Sorry I haven't been back until now, but as soon as my order arrived winter returned with a vengeance two days later and then my business life took over as soon the weather warmed back up again. This project unfortunately got put on the back burner. Bottom line, the latest...

    Any Tips on safari outfit?

Hi Mojave, it's been a while. Good to see you're still kicking. I looked at the pants but wasn't impressed at all with them. I don't remember the originals ever looking like that. However I began rethinking the jacket and despite the bad review got nostalgic and ordered one along with a shirt...

    Any Tips on safari outfit?

Perhaps it's just the way the model is wearing it, but it looks badly proportioned in the shoulders. And the originals did not have a drawstring waist, just two pieces of elastic placed between the front pockets to shape the waistline while letting the back drape cleanly. I still have mine, but...

    Bush Jackets

Excellent find. Found at IMDB under the title Ivory Hunter. Probably no hope of finding it on this side of the Atlantic, but I'll give it a try later today. I need to stop waffling and remove the sleeves from one of my WPG bush jackets. Always thought that would be a great option for Summer use...

Would have been great to watch it. Too bad the web site won't let me. "Geographic restriction" it says.

    Pullover Shirts

Top of shoulder seam to end of cuff is 23 inches on a size 42. The sleeves have always seemed a bit short for me but still very wearable. I wear a 16x34 dress shirt, and have long been accustomed to an extra inch, but it's never been a big issue since I wear the WPGs only in warm weather with...

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Moc toe leather field boots with what looks like speed hook lacing on the shafts. The laces are even nicely tied off and tucked away so they don't dangle. The soles are not the usual running or hiking type sole you see on boots these days either. All he's missing is a pair of breeches. Still...
