    THE SUNBODY ASSOCIATION

Oh I like that idea! I’ll give stretching another go, and if I’m still not satisfied then I’ll probably try removing part of the sweat knowing I can replace it with leather if I don’t like the results. Thanks!

    THE SUNBODY ASSOCIATION

Has anyone here removed the cotton sweatband from their Sunbody? The hat I bought last summer is feeling a little tight, and I've already wetted and stretched it. I was thinking about the back half of the sweat out for some extra breathing room but don't want to ruin the thing...

Ask a question, get an answer

Thanks Brent and @jlee562 . Yes, this is the Royal Deluxe Chatham, and I’m not sure if this is dead stock inventory or a new off-catalog offering. If I go back for it I’ll try to ask. I think I’m leaning more towards the city hat-look than Open Road, and I like the raw edge of the Chatham as...

Ask a question, get an answer

Stopped by my local hat shop the other day and tried on a Stetson Chatham in Sage that I really liked. I know it’s sort of an apples-to-oranges comparison, but can anyone offer me any additional insight/opinions into this hat versus an Akubra Campdraft in Bluegrass Green? The Chatham felt was...

    Stetson Dune Model

My Dune is, sadly, not as robust as yours @itsallgood but I still appreciate it. A couple walks in the rain caused the brim to curl, but I embraced it by evening it out and giving a quasi pencil curl to the whole thing. I then added a mule kick for extra Hank Williams character.

    Panama Hat Thread

Took @deadlyhandsome ’s advice on Pecard antique leather dressing, and while it definitely softened the band up, I think it also revealed that it may actually be pleather? Or at least a very cheap leather. And I guess as this is kind of the beginning of the end of Stetson’s heyday (1976) I...

Copy that. I’ll order some Pecard Antique and hope for the best. I’m fully prepared for this sweat to be toast, but may as well give it a go. Really appreciate the knowledge sharing on this forum! I will certainly report any results.

Thanks Brent. I don't think it's dry rotted as there's no flaking or obvious cracks, so hopefully good news? The leather is quite stiff, and I don't feel comfortable trying to flip the sweatband down to apply any sort of dressing/conditioner. How do you feel about applying Pecard to the finished...

I’ve read conflicting things about salvaging leather sweat bands, do you have a product you like to use? I’m also concerned about staining the straw…

Dating Vintage Stetsons by Liner: A Field Guide

Not too many Panamas in here so I’ll add mine. Originally purchased in 1976 if I’m to trust the box and receipt that came with it.

Dating Vintage Stetsons by size tag

I recently bought a Stetson Panama that included a box and receipt from 1976, haven’t seen this size tag posted here before: I tend to wear 7 1/2 or 60cm regular oval hats, but have a long oval head and this fits me quite well - is it possible this style of tag indicates LO sizing? Or is it...

    Panama Hat Thread

New to the lounge, but wanted to share this vintage Stetson Panama I scored recently. Came with the original (I assume) shipping box and receipt so we know it’s from 1976. A full 3” brim and nearly 5” crown as creased. Would love to learn more if anyone has any other info! The brim is a lot...
