Size 42, or chest 42" around? They're not the same thing. (I have one now, AAF type with the sewn-on belt, but it's about a size 39 or "tight 40.")

These are an excellent resource for anyone looking to create something "period correct." Upper right book is topcoatings, showing velour finished wool, checks, and herringbones. The other three are suit materials, showing a WIDE range of plaids, glen plaids, herringbones, checks, pineapple...

I was going to say, but it's been addressed: Flannel is a weave. You have wool flannel for example- wool is the fiber content, while flannel is the weave. Therefore you cannot have a herringbone flannel. Don't forget rayon flannel! You see a lot of shirts from the 1950's made from this too.
