Very interesting about the Hasidic hats. Parenthetically I thought Hasidim were Orthodox. I guess not. Anyway, the article contributes to my education on hats in that community.

New hats have a crispness that old hats lack. I see a lot of new-looking hats in 30s movies. I think they look good that way. Nothing like a new hat.

Panama hats are floppy, the finer the floppier. I believe that blocked Panama hats have some stiffener in them. Not the maximum, just some. Art Fawcett may weigh in on that, but I think it is desirable to have a little stiffener in a good Panama.
