Wow!! I did not know this! I doubt I will be going there anytime soon. I guess as long as you stick around Egypt your hat will be ok? I know I have had several customers take their ABs there and sent me pics back. And never lost their hats.
Any more hat snatching countries? Just so I will...
I think I answered the wait time issue in my first post here.
And, I do not actually make a hat, when the humidity is high, i.e rain. If I were making a regular hat, rain would not matter. Instead, I make hats that are resistant to the shrinkage/taper issue that new felt is blessed with. I...
If I were taking a trip such as this, I would only opt for a good, sturdy felt hat. Personally, I hate these new hats made out of fabric and other new materials. They may have their place, but they are also god awful ugly contraptions that give hats a bad name. lol Ok, I hyperbolize...
I think the Raiders fedora and the CS fedora are the coolest looking hats made. Much of this comes from the dimensional cut brim, which gives the hat a more streamline look, when compared with a regular cut brim. It changes the looks of the fedora, in a postive way, IMO.
While the Indy...
Let me chime in. :) Being an idiot, I kept the same pricing for too long, and sold too many hats at the old cheap price. At the time, I was just trying to give the Indy fans a bargain, as I have always done. I used to reblock hats for free, before I started making my own line. So, that was my...
These threads are fun, and shows me how squeamish some are about wearing clothing that is no longer what the rest of the monkeys are wearing. (monkey see, monkey do, or the way fashions are transmitted)
Personally, I could care less about what other people think of what I am wearing. Unless...
No speculation sir. Facts. Have you ever tried to reblock one that has shrunk? Try it, before you say I am speculating. ;) Post a Christy that has shrunk and tapered, and then reblocked. I gotta see it. To date, I have only seen the two that I did. But they were brand new when I reblocked them...
Yes, I do agree, and it is a fact. As I said, I am a hat snob. But, I am that way in everything that I own. So, no doubt there are two camps in regards to the quality issue in hats.
For me, I got spoiled real fast with my first purchase of a vintage hat from ebay. Up until that time, I had...
Do what I do. Shop ebay for a real deal vintage hat. No shrinkage, no taper when they get wet, and the craftmanship is top notch. ;) And you should be able to find one in the Christy price range. Might take some regular looking though, as its been awhile since I bought vintage hats from ebay...
No sir, I have no knowledge of them. The only reason I know as much as I do about the Christy/HJ is because I was in contact with HJ a couple years ago, and was considering buying those wholesale to reblock and remake the bows for the guys who loved the HJ name, due to its relationship to the...
Ok, the Christy is bascially a cheap HJ. I said basically, because, its the same felt, the same ribbon and the same sweatband leather.
Every HJ I ever got in, (around a hundred) has been lopsided on the bow side of the crown. Shrinkage. Prior to it getting to me. These hats are dry blocked...
I wonder what line the Temple is made of? From some of these stories, it appears the Temple no longer uses the powder, and that makes me want to buy one to see. I alway liked the looks of the hat, as it is a great TOD Indy fedora.
Yes indeed sir. I never really had any problems with high...
yeah, if my memory is correct, Art did indeed. And I think, vintage hats. But, not really sure.
Lots of plastic hats in those crowd scenes, or so I was told. Not from Art though.
You know, Barons sure has a nice shop, and I think Mark is a decent guy too. I can't say anything bad about...
Are you actually being serious? Almost every small hatter today hand blocks, Art included.
And as Brad said, UNLESS China is making cav edges, there are none to be had.
Mark from Barons called me in 07 to find a felt supplier. Which I thought was really odd.
I am sorry, but I can't...
