My book, a bourbon and the Squatter. It’s just me and the dog this weekend!!!
I don’t consider myself a bourbon drinker but my co-worker turned me onto this stuff. I like!
I believe so Jack. That being said, I have kept a lookout for vintage hats. Here is what the Squatter looked like open crown. I was a little shocked at first due to the lighting in our kitchen. It looked brown!
It took me over a year to bite the bullet and finally make a purchase. I decided on an Akubra Squatter in Regency Fawn from The Hattery.
The folks at The Hattery were very helpful with determining sizing, the shipping was a breeze, and the hat itself is awesome.
I decided against the Campdraft...
Thanks for all your help guys. I'm kind of leaning towards the Camp Draft myself, simply for the options the open crown presents, but we'll see.
I'm a little disappointed in the lack of colours available right now. I really liked the Fawn...
Thanks Jack. I like the bound edge and cupping of the CD, so that’s not an issue.
I’m not sure if I would try and replicate the crown on vintage Stetson exactly but I do like it. So with the taller, straighter crown on the CD, I guess I would need to use up that material with deeper creases?

This is all great information. I’m going to do some more digging here in these forums and see what else I can turn up online in terms of photos.
I kind of like the cattleman crease, but modified slightly, tapering in width towards the front of the hat, and the side dents less conspicuous.
What great resources, thank-you! I like all those hats pictured on the first ad (minus the two Gus crowns).
The 1902 sales catalogue had some interesting models too. The 1028
Colt, 1073 Express and 1083 Eton all jumped out at me.
I was a little surprised by how unrefined many of the crowns...
Thanks for the tips. The “Western Dress Fedora” just sounds like its in my wheel house.
Also, I’m 5’10” with with a slim build. I’m a smaller man, and don’t want anything too big. I like the proportions of the modern OR, but am not 100% sure about the crown height (I don’t want the crease...
Hey folks, I’ve been reading and lurking here for a while, but figured it was time to throw a question out there. I apologize if I ramble on but I want to make my intentions clear and hopefully get some advice in return.
I am looking into purchasing either a new Open Road or a Campdraft, but am...
