Grant Fan, those are great looking heels! What style name were they? I've been looking at a pair of Seychelles that will go with "peacock" (like a very dark teal) for my sister's wedding, but I like these a lot too. Let me know if the teal is true to the color shown, or darker.
1934 summer dress
I'm looking for patterns for a maid of honor dress for my sister's wedding next year. Does anyone know where I might find a similar pattern to the second dress from left shown in this picture of 1934 dresses on Marquise.de? I love the open sleeves and the draped collar! I have...
Love the dress LD! But, I'm a bit confused as to why the pattern model on the envelope is holding up separates (starched to a centimeter of their life, even!) if the dress is a one-piece, which it does seem to be....
eh, it definitely looked better and more vintage glam pre-modification to me. I don't really see how the dress before modification hit at an "awkward length" as the article said... looks like it goes down plenty in the picture.
But, I don't feel horrified that Bergman's granddaughter...
Omg. Omg. I checked the last few pages of the thread and PR, but no one's mentioned that Aris Allen has new mary janes out in blue and brown!! There's also a black/white mesh too. But, colors! :eeek...
Yeah, why not be courteous to others regardless of gender, & open the doors for THEM rather than put down what they might do for you? I've always opened doors for everyone, men, women, elderly, teens. I find that guys tend to demur & say 'go on in', while some women seem surprised, but no one...
Thank you LD and GoddessMama! Between your visualizations and directions, maybe I can figure this out!
One thing... I am confuzzled at step 4: 'taking if off the center fold & shoulder line'- eh? I've changed necklines on several items before but I don't remember having to adjust the center or...
Can anyone else wrap their head around how the bust in this pattern is drafted??? (or heck, point me to a copy of this). I am stumped! Best as I can tell, the top bit is cut on the fold, and a section cut out of the bottom center fold, which the top is then pleated down to. I am also not sure...
This has happened to me with 19th century clothing, though not really in a linear progression by decade. I was really into the early bustle look. Then somehow I ended up finding the Romantic era pretty awesome, when before it had looked kinda drab compared to late Victorian, yet oddly...
Goodness, I didn't know acetate tended to oxidize. That might explain why it has that discoloration despite apparently never being worn. Thanks Gracie Lee for the info!
I looked up Angies List, and it seems to be a pay-fer-access review site? I guess I'll just have to ask around... (pssst if...
How would you treat "acetate & rayon" and "rayon brocade satin"?
I found two dresses today from the mid 50s. Both unworn with tags! Fit perfectly! My favorite has a self-crinoline and chinese-calligraphy embroidered cream colored acetate/rayon brocade. The other is a lovely yellow & tan brocade...
I've had 2 Trashy Diva dresses and found they ran too long on my torso as well. I LOVE their dresses, but i've become cautious about ordering anything else from them because a too-long bodice just doesn't look good on my short waisted self. That green/white sweetie dress was one of my faves, so...
