Does vintage clothing attract a rude/violent response?

Wearing a fedora in Iowa can be a bit of an ordeal. At a casino, a guy who was working in valet, saw me in my stetson fedora and started guffawing about the mafia. First of all, I am a woman; second, the stetson was a rose red Mr. Stetson fedora with a stingy brim. I just smiled and said...

    The most frightening motion pictures?

As for all the classic horror films, I used to be scared of vampires. Not Frankenstein's monster, or the Werewolf or King Kong -- I identified with those poor, hapless creatures, but the undead scared the living tar out of me. Probably the scariest was not Dracula, but Nosferatu -- When that...

    I don't own a...

I don't have a dress, haven't worn one since 1971. Do not use makeup and I look ten to 15 years younger than I am. I drive a stick car, no GPS, roll down my own windows, no remote. I dislike automatic dishwasher and garbage disposals, won't use them. Use a simple cell phone, no videos...

    Woman wearing Hats

There have been, over the years a goodly number of women in the FL who wear fedoras. Some like the Indiana Jones look, others like stingy brims. I have a number of fedoras, including a black Open Road, several Akubras, an Art Fawcett, an Adventurebilt in charcoal gray plus some colorful ones...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Just learned that the last WWI combat veteran, Claude Choules died today at age 110. He fought for England. Only one veteran is left, a woman named Florence Green, also 110, who served as a waitress for the Women's Royal Air Force. There is also a Polish man who is a WWI-era veteran, but...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

While I know not one single person, I feel sorrow today for those who lost their lives in that devastating earthquake/tsunami in Japan. I send out my blessing to those who are suffering and those who are gone. kdl

    The most frightening motion pictures?

Those Val Lewton movies could scare you to death and you never saw the gore. Cat People was one, also try The Leopard Man. There are several scary scenes in that one. karol

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Jane Russell was a favorite actress of mine when I was a kid, I like her sense of humor and playful spirit. RIP, Jane, and thanks for all the fun pictures you made. RIP Frank Buckles, the last Doughboy from the Great War. karol

    The most frightening motion pictures?

The most frightening were from my childhood. I recall seeing House of Wax when I was 12. When Vincent Price rose up under the sheet in that morgue, it gave me the willies -- couldn't sleep for weeks without a cover over my head. It didn't help I was a bit of a necrophobic when I was a kid...

    Pencils

I have a bunch of black #2 Ticonderogas, which I have been using for a few months. The color is cool, and the erasure is latex-free. I despise those erasures on cheapie pencils -- you use it to erase something and it smudges. Not on my Ticonderogas. kdl

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

It was hot in Iowa, took my mother to Prairie Meadows casino and wore my new black panama cowboy hat. Has a slight rise to it, but not a Gus hat; has stampede straps and an Indian beaded hat band. I bought it at a hat store in Albuquerque's Old Town section. I wear it a lot. karol

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Yes, Lena Horne's civil rights activism was even more impressive than her singing/acting career. She was a pioneer in so many ways. kdl

Lena -- a beautiful, talented, elegant lady. I somehow thought she'd live forever. I have the DVD Stormy Weather, plan to watch it this week. R.I.P., Lena. You were the best. kdl
