    Historical "Vintage" Fashion?

I have wondered about this for a while but haven't been able to come across any answers so hopefully someone here might have some insight. Does anyone know if there were groups of women in the past who intentionally wore "vintage" fashion in the way we do? Like Victorians wearing Regency styles...

How do you feel about(Vintage) fur?

I wear faux fur in vintage styles, but get too squeamish to wear the real thing. I don't mind other people wearing vintage fur but it just makes me uncomfortable to wear it myself. I do have one real fur stole in my vintage collection that was given to me for free (my grandmothers friend was...

    Marcel clips?

Little out of my price range I'm afraid. I'd love to get some Mervins, but to get enough to do all my head would be well over $100. That's just a bit too much for me to spend on hair clips! I did manage to recently find a slightly different type of 1920s clip which were inexpensive, but I only...

    Marcel clips?

Does anyone know if there are any modern companies that sell marcel curlers/clips? I don't mean the "claw" ones, but rather the flat barrette type clips. I've seen a number of pictures of vintage sets on Pinterest, but haven't been able to track down an affordable vintage set or a modern...

Hair refuses to hold curl even after

Have you tried misting your hair lightly with a bit of lemon juice? I normally mix in a couple tablespoons of lemon juice into my spray bottle and then mist my head after putting in foam rollers. I get a much better hold if I use the lemon, as the acid helps set the curl. It might be drying if...

    The Powder Room's Etsy Directory

I just opened an Etsy shop, which sells handmade, one-of-a-kind clothing with a focus on styles from the 1920s (there is a few Victorian inspired garments as well) www.etsy.com/shop/PhonographFashions

do you wash your hair everyday?

I used wash my hair everyday but after gradually lengthening the times between washings, I now I wash mine every 5-7 days. My hair definitely feels better when I wash it less often.

    Vintage Curling Irons?

What type of stove did you use? Where I am living at the moment has a glass cooktop and I would be hesitant to try it on that (since I'm not supposed to use cast iron pans on it either). I never use heat on my hair so this will be quite an experiment.

    Vintage Curling Irons?

I have wanted a 1920's curling iron for ages. I found one today at my favourite antique market for quite a good price. The question is, do I just display it or attempt to actually use it? I am actually really curious to try it but am worried about frying my hair. I'm also not quite sure what to...

    Long haired 1930s 1920 looks?

Thanks! I will have to try and find my curling iron to try out your suggestion :)

    Long haired 1930s 1920 looks?

I mean down in ringlets. (The top part looks a bit like finger waves or something to me but I could be wrong on that.)

    Long haired 1930s 1920 looks?

Does anyone have any idea how to get "Mary Pickford" curls? I've tried waveclips+rollers, as well as rag curls but I can't seem to get anything even close

    Cleansing milk?

I was reading an article today from the 1930's that suggested using cleansing milk for oily skin. I know a lot of ladies here use cold cream but does anyone use a cleansing milk? I was considering trying it since cold cream just doesn't work for my skin. Can you really just use plain milk? I...

    Crimpers / Wavers?

Has anyone tried using an antique hair crimper? I have seen a few at a very good price and really want to try one. I'm just a little worried about frying my hair :S

    Elderly Reactions To Vintage

I was talking to my Grandmother (she's almost 87) the other day about some of my vintage clothing. I tried on this stunning 1940's evening dress I bought and asked her what she thought. She responded with "It's very lovely but you know you have gone completely bonkers right?" She can't quite...
